Small Dogs > Wld a Yorkie be ok with a Saint Bernard?

The real question is would a Saint Bernard be ok with a Yorkie? laugh out loud Duchess used to play with the neighbor's dogs - a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Yorkie. The Yorkie used to play a little aggresively, the Spaniel was pretty mellow. Duchess was such a gentle dog that she used to let the Yorkie do whatever she wanted. Duchess was the same way with our cat. The cat would jump all over Duchess while she would try to nap and again Duchess didn't do anything. If Saints are trained properly, they truly are gentle giants.

Everything you described is exactly how it was for Duchess in the end. Except she wasn't blind, although one of her eyes had completely closed up on its own due to the brain tumor pushing down on it. She had no use of that eye obviously when it completely closed. But Duchess was very confused, bumping into walls and falling down. In the end, she couldn't stand or walk without us helping her. I knew it was time for her. Talk with your vet. Get his input. It was extremely hard for me to make this decision as it is for everyone. I just couldn't stand to see her go through this any longer. It wasn't fair to her. I'm praying for you and Baxter. hug hug hug hug hug

Dogster Lifestyle, News & Entertainment > Do you believe in Dog/Pet Psychics??

Duchess just passed recently and the grief has been killing me. My co-worker had lost her dog over the summer and contacted an animal psychic and said she was great and pretty accurate with the kinds of things she was telling her. She communicates with all animals both dead and alive and I believe she also communicates with people who have passed too but her specialty is animals. I am considering checking more into this however it is quite expensive and I like to do my own research on the psychic first. I do believe in this but I also know that there are a lot of phonies out there too.

I have to agree with you. I just lost my sweet Duchess and the pain is so great that the kind, comforting words of others speaking so highly of Duchess even though they never physically met her, is truly touching to me and my family. Even though this is a very difficult thing for anyone to have to go through, just knowing that others know how you feel and can offer some words of comfort make difficult days a little less difficult.

I am truly sorry for your loss. hug rainbow little angel

Thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time. It means a lot to me and my family. Duchess was truly a special dog and will always be missed. She was such a gentle giant and loved all creatures big and small. I am so touched by everyone's words of comfort. Thank you all again.

I am completely heartbroken to write this and part of me is in disbelief, but I had to let my sweet Duchess go today. She had just deteriorated drastically within the last couple of weeks. Her brain tumor just progressed to the point where she couldn't stand or walk without me holding her up. She had difficulty sitting and didn't have the strength to eat or drink today. I knew it was time even before I called the vet this morning. I will miss her terribly but am glad to know she is no longer suffering or in any pain. I can only pray that I will meet her again one day. My sweet girl went very peacefully. My mom, sister and I were there with the vet stroking her fur and talking to her as she drifted.

I will love you and miss you furever my sweet girl! Please forgive me but I couldn't bear to see you suffer any longer. cry

I am praying for both you and Baxter.

I know exactly what you're going through. Duchess has had a brain tumor since 2007. We went to the vet yesterday and got some really bad news. He doesn't think that she has too much longer. She has deteriorated a lot within the last couple of weeks. She is stumbling around, having difficulty getting up and sitting down. She kind of walks like she is drunk; she's walking into walls and bumps into things. He said that it looks like she is losing some muscle mass too. He gave her a cortisone shot yesterday and she seems better today but I am so heartroken. I just can't stop crying. She had an accident on the living room rug during the night. I know it is because of the shot which he said would cause her to drink a lot more. I did wake up in the middle of the night and took her out but I guess she drank more and had to go again.

Anyway, I am thinking about you and Baxter and will pray for you both.hughug

Thank you everyone. I am going to make a vet appointment as well. I was never told that she actually had arthritis. I know that's common as they get older but I would like to know if that's exactly what she has. Do they do X-rays to confirm it or do they just examine them to check for arthritis?

How do you trim the fur between the pads? Do you just use a regular scissor?

Can you tell me what Udder Butter is and where I can find it?

I did notice that the fur between her pads could be trimmed a little. I've never done that before myself. The groomer usually does it. Would I just use a regular scissor to trim the fur? She doesn't like the bottom of her feet touched so I'm a little nervous to do it myself.

I also noticed that her pads her very smooth. They are usually pretty rough. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it too. I'm wondering if the roughness acted as a grip for her on smooth surfaces.

I don't really know where to put this so if it has to be moved to a more appropriate topic, please do so.

Duchess is 8 years old and is slipping and sliding all over the kitchen floor. She can barely stand without sliding. I usually keep her food and water bowl in the kitchen which I now had to move closer to the rug so she is standing on the rug while she eats and drinks. I just don't understand because it is the same floor we've had for years and just recently (within the last few weeks) this started and has gotten significantly worse. I am careful to wipe up the floor when she drinks because she does make a mess when she drinks. I have a floor mat under her water bowl, then a tray, then a disposable baking pan and then I keep her water bowl inside the pan to elimintate most of the mess she makes when she drinks. I haven't used anything different than I normally do to clean the floor. In fact, I re-wiped the floor by hand with hot water and paper towels and it still hasn't helped. Has this happened to anyone else? Could this be a medical issue? Or could this be part of the aging process? I appreciate any help you can give me.
