I really like schedules and would like to have one I can use with a variety of meats trying to keep 50% red meat. This is what I have come up with so far, any suggestions/concerns?
Joey (168 oz) 57-60 lb
Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday
(add egg 1-2 x week)
AM: 1 leg quarter (16 oz)

Monday and Friday
AM: 4 oz liver plus 8 oz ground or boneless meat
PM: 12 oz red boneless meat
Wed and Saturday
AM: 4 oz other organ plus 8 oz red boneless meat
PM: 12 oz fish or other | | | | |

Raw Food Diet > Vacation
Joey

| Barked: Mon Oct 15, '12 1:12pm PST | | | | | In three weeks I will be gone for ten days and a friend will be dogsitting. I am pretty new to the raw diet for both my boys (3 weeks in). I am wondering what all of you experienced raw feeders do when you go on vacation? I was thinking of weighing everything out and putting it in ziploc bags with the days for a label. Any ideas/suggestions? | | | | |

My large dog needs 18 oz day for 2 % so I should probably stock up on that. I think a lot of their skin issues comes from outside so I am hoping it will get better this winter.
Can I ask where most people get their organ meat excluding liver. I have been able to find plenty of liver but not much else. I was going to hit up some ethnic food markets this weekend. Thanks! | | | | |

Raw Food Diet > New discussion on raw (premade) diet and high alt
Joey

| Barked: Mon Oct 8, '12 12:51pm PST | | | | | I do not know about raw premade diet an association with high alt disease because I am new to this diet, but I was curious does your dog have any other symptoms? Were her other liver function tests normal (AST, ALKP, GGT)? I know that red meat is high in ammonia and not reommended in dog's with severe liver disease and seizures, and I have also seen articles regarding low purine diets in liver disease. I assume your Vet is doing more tests/labwork? I hope you find out the root of the problem! I would not want to change anything until more tests were run. | | | | |

Raw Food Diet > What next?

| Barked: Mon Oct 8, '12 10:11am PST | | | | | It has been a week now since my dogs have transitioned to raw food and so far so good. Thanks to this forum's tips I switched my bully to leg quarters from drumsticks, which is slowing him down and making me feel better about his chewing.
For the past few days I have been feeding them their appropriate weight of leg quarters and two days ago I introduced chicken liver and they tolerated it well.
When I took them on a walk yesterday I noticed their stools looked pretty much the same (soft but formed/what I would consider normal amount for both sizes). Does this mean I should continue on with he chicken quarters for awhile or go ahead and cut down to 10% bone? I was also wondering what would be the best protein to feed next?
The main reason for me switching is their constant scratching/allergies. Will 2 weeks be enough time to see if this diet will help improve this? I will likely stick with raw either way because they love it so much, but want to figure out the cause of their allergies for sure.
Thanks! | | | | |
