I realize this answer is wayyy late, but for others who may be wondering the same thing... chins prefer warmer weather because they have no under coat. But it is important to find a good chin breeder whose dogs do not have breathing difficulties.

Our lab gets really bad gas at times and it usually means he needs a good dose of probiotics for dogs. Also, we switched him to Royal Canine and that has helped too. Though I feed my chin Blue Buffalo.

Looks all chihuaha to me too. He has a great little apple head and short snout, just adorable! Sounds like you really lucked out with such an incredible personality in the little guy. If you really want to know though dog breed DNA testing isn't expensive and can give you his history back 5 generations.
