No with only those changes i wouldnt warrent a vet vist yet. Like i said in my previous post, when switching a dog over to raw I dont become too concerned with inconsistant bowel movements, especially if she has some firm ones. Only time i would worry with my dogs is if its nasty bloody shooting diarhea and lack of energy or refusing to eat or drink (heaven forbid). I would continue to stick with chicken for a while longer. I tend to pick up whole chickens and cut them up in meaty/with bone portions. I would bet that when you feed her a meal without bone you are seeing loose stool and firm stools are the bone meals. Try doing a 50/50 meat to bone sort of meal for awhile.

Are you certain the losing of hair on her ears isnt spring allergies? sometime with the change in weather this time of year dogs can lose more coat or get seasonal allergens. Is she scratching or anything?

I travel to Flyball competitions that last 2-3 days and are usually 4-6 hour drives. I always just pack meals into ziplock bags and put in the bottom of my cooler. usually i keep stocked with ice from the motels i stay at or run to a safeway if need be but usually no problem with a 6 hour drive on the original ice I start with in the cooler.

maybe you can check craigslist now and again for a deal on a used freezer in the future. feeding raw usually requires a certain amount of freezer space eventually. my huge freezer i got off craigslist for a awesome deal, right in my home town. Thats great that your family is supporting you feeding raw!

I also wanted to add that for organs I like to use a variety of sources, so i may feed pork kidney one week, beef kidney the next. maybe for liver i will feed chicken liver a few weeks then feed lamb liver or beef liver for a couple weeks. Variety is key.

That looks about right although you should be considering tripe as part of the 60% meat category, so in reality you are feeding 80% meat which is correct. I feed the 80% meat, 10% bone, 10% organ (5% of that being liver) ratio, with Kidney, spleen, pancreas or thymus being my usual organs.

No, i dont feed veggies. Its too much of a hassle for me to pureee them if thats the only way they can absorb them. I dont really give my dogs snacks in between meals though, although they usually have deer antlers or bully sticks to gnaw on in bwtween meals so i suppose that would be their snack.

Typically if my dogs are visiting someone else or being watched by someone when i am out of town i keep them on the same diet and pre-porton out individual meals in ziplock baggies and label them if i need to give additional instructions, but that is rare. The other option is maybe get a freeze dried or premade raw for them to feed which may be easier on a transition that giving your dogs kibble while you are gone.

Dog Health > My dog possibly swallowed a squeaker from a toy...

My last dog swallowed a squeaker from a toy like that, and it literally sat in his stomach for months before getting lodged in the intestine and couldnt pass, which prompted surgery. He didnt show any signs of discomfort until it became a problem, and was even eating and drinking normally for months. Not trying to assume the worst, but i would definetly visit the vet to rule out the possibility.

When switching a new dog to any new diet there is usually a transistion of inconsistant stool in the beginning. I wouldnt warrent a vet visit unless it persists for awhile or you see changes in her behavior. In the beginning i always switch cold turkey, feed nothing of the old diet, and start with bone in chicken witha fair amount of bone to begin. depending on dog i will eventually add more meat then bone and in a few weeks switch to another protein source. All depends on the dog. I wouldnt add pumpkin either. Typically if any of my dogs have loose stool on raw i know that a need to add more bone next meal but other than that if the stool isnt explosive it doesnt worry me if its not always solid.

I tend to feed as much red meats as possible. Pork, venison, beef, lamb, ect. I only feed duck, quail, turkey and chicken for bone and variety. i also feed fish 1-2 times a week.
