Chihuahua > How many of you sleep with your Chihuahua?

We sleep with ours all the time. We have two, and each has adopted one of us as "their" particular human, so there aren't any uncomfortable cold spots between our respective legs at night.

We have our Chis on Stella & Chewy's food. It's freeze-dried RAW diet stuff.

They're doing very well on it.

Yes, our Abigail suffers from reverse sneezing as well. We were concerned that it was a collapsed trachea, but that wasn't the case. She's learned that when it starts happening to come to one of us and we'll stroke her until it stops.

Chihuahua > How do I find a mate for my 4yr old male Chihuahua Marley?

A spayed female dog isn't going to allow a male to try to have sex with her, anymore than a female dog who isn't in heat will allow it. Keep in mind that once a male dog achieves a "tie" with the female dog, they will be essentially locked together for the next ten to twenty minutes as he ejaculates. Even a female dog in heat will sometimes try to bite the crap out of the dog who is joined with her in this way.

The extended connection essentially guarantees that puppies will be the result. There is no "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" about it.

Dogs only mate to reproduce. They are biologically geared for it. There are already far too many Chihuahuas out there.

Neuter Marley and that behavior should stop over time.

Chihuahua > HOW TO IDENTIFY TEACUP CHIHUAHUA DOG

Abigail

Whatcha doin'?

Why do people keep insisting that there is a different variety of Chihuahua called a "teacup" Chihuahua. There are long and short hair Chihuahuas. There are NO size categories.

So-called "teacup" Chihuahuas are runt puppies that often have serious health problems. They are bred by irresponsible owners/puppy mills with little care for the health of the puppy, much less the breed as a whole.

You can find the breed standard for Chihuahuas here:

http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com/breed-info/chihuahuau -breed-standard/breed-standard

Their statement on so-called "teacup" Chihuahuas can be found here:

http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com/breed-info/chihuahuau -breed-standard/teacup-statement

PS: Who put that awful site together that you posted? The spelling and grammar are terrible.

You can find a chart on Chihuahua size here:

http://www.petchidog.com/Growth_Chart.html It's not set in stone, but it's a fairly good guide from which to work.

Does your Chihuahua have papers and a good healthy family history? Is he a good example of the breed? No hernias, underbite, overbite, tongue is IN his mouth, rather than dangling out of it uncontrollably? How are his knees?

These are the first things you should consider before breeding your dog, as there are currently so many Chihuahuas in shelters and rescues already.

Just wanting to give him the "pleasure" of breeding is completely self-serving and irresponsible. Dogs mate to procreate, not to get their rocks off.

If you want him to be happy and healthy, neuter him. It'll keep him healthier in the long run.

Service & Therapy Dogs > Service Dogs in Training Under Florida Law???

There is, apparently, something going on in Florida now, however, that may affect handlers' abilities to bring a Service Dog in Training into public buildings that otherwise only allow Service Dogs entrance.

There is another thread here on the subject of that proposed legislation in Florida.

@Frisco,

Well, they also have to take the time to add things that have nothing to do with this particular Bill, but someone wants to get something through, anyway.

Sorry...the snark just wouldn't keep to itself.

I hope that things don't get stupid for you folks in Florida. /hugs

Are SDiTs considered as service dogs by the airlines? That's something to look into. Otherwise, if this is an issue, you may wish to speak with your doctor about getting a note for him/her as an Emotional Service Dog (so s/he doesn't end up being put in the cargo hold).

Just asking, as I've never tried to fly with an SDiT.

Sadie, my comment was because Zoe made the assumption that those who did not care for her suggestion were from the American political far right. I'm not one of that particular political bent (I lean more toward Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, politically), so I found her assumption to be funny.

But...we're a service and therapy dog forum, so I'll step back and let things go back where they need to be. smile

Have a beautiful day, dear lady.
