Otto, when someone comes in and starts saying that all Service dogs should be certified, one's hackles tend to go up.

It's not being "defensive", it's being irritated.

I've seen a lot of "news" articles out there talking about scam service dogs. They do all seem to be deliberately directed in the direction of requiring certification.

It's not hard to suspect that "certain organizations" are salting a lot of these stories.

The Americans with Disabilities Act says that certification may not be required of Service animals.

If someone requires it, they are violating Federal Law.

Do you have a disability for which the service dog performs tasks for you?

A therapy dog such as you describe (nursing homes and hospice duties) aren't the same as service dogs.

Look under the first paragraph of the Inquiries and Exclusions section of this ADA page:
http://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm

and there is more common language information here (also an ADA page):

That is in direct conflict with the ADA, so that won't fly (where service dogs are concerned).

They can shove their "certified trainer" law up their copious backsides.

A "full" service dog can't be required to have a "certified trainer" along for the ride. A SDiT, perhaps, but not one who has already completed training.

Copy and paste the whole thing into a new browser window and then press enter. Make sure there are no spaces in the URL. This site has a bad habit of not playing nice with URLS.

You should be able to take her with you and have one of the technicians hold her leash while the MRI is being done.

There is a link on that page I sent you to who you can contact, since they're not appearing to be of help to you. Time to make a federal case out of it.

Good luck.
