Saying Goodbye: Memorials & Support > Scruffy passed away

Scruffy lost his battle with kidney disease. He was fighting against his illness for nearly 2 years. My heart is broken. I lost my best friend today. Rest peacefully, Scruffy. We love you and will miss you very much.

--------------------------------------------
The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

UPDATE: Yesterday Scruffy wasn't keeping water down. We rushed him to the Vet and she gave him an anti-vomiting shot and took blood. He hasn't been eating much lately and lost 5 lbs in a month. He has been shivering on and off lately too and seems lethargic and weak and frail. We got the bloodwork results today and it's not good news. His kidney values increased a lot and he is anemic. The vet kept saying he has been fighting this for so long and she wished it was good news. She said it seems like it's the beginning of the end for him.

Behavior & Training > Potty Training Help!

First of all stop punishing him for having accidents, he's just a baby and doesn't understand. Punishing potty accidents can turn into a dog who is afraid to potty in front of you and instead will hide to potty. Instead, supervise your puppy better and prevent accidents from happening. If you can't have your full attention on your puppy crate him or put him in a small pen. When he's out of the crate do not let him out of your sight. Be sure to clean up any accidents with a pet enzyme odor eliminator. That will remove any traces of the scent and hopefully make it less tempting to potty in the spot again. Secondly, pick one method and stick with it, either potty pads or crate, not both. If you do use the potty pads, put the potty pads in a pen with him so he is confined to one small area so he doesn't make a habit of going in other areas of your house. But it sounds like the potty pads may be confusing him, sometimes potty pads can teach a dog it's ok to go potty in the house. He's still a baby and you certainly still do need to supervise him every second so you should wait on letting him use the doggy door when he feels like because he's not fully house trained. He may not be reliable with house training till 6 months or more, he is still a baby and is still developing bladder control! When you take him outside, you stay outside with him till he goes potty then reward him. If he wants to play or doesn't go, then he goes right back into the crate or pen till the next trip outside. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Guest, It looks like the post is still up. You have to remove the spaces the Dogster puts in the link when you copy and paste to get the link to work correctly.

He's cute! I'm seeing hound. I'd say Redbone Coonhound/Labrador mix.
