There is a web site on how to apply for a county SD tag I think its "how to appy for an assistance dog county tag?" ..The county I live in had a problem with that issue..they didn't think they did that...they do, Check with your local county animal control office, they can check under California health and safety code 30852 they have to order the tags. the tag will be shaped like California. Good luck it took me three years to get our county to understand they have to order these..lol laugh out loud and yes California allows SDIT to have public access snoopy

I have had a couple of people tell (after seeing my SD) that they are going to get a comfort dog. I just smile and say oh, just be aware that a comfort dog or ESA is not covered under the ADA law and does not have access rights to stores etc., they just have rights under housing, for rentals etc.. Then I just walk away, they always looked shocked and say "oh" shrug

Thanks for sharing Iris..Sarge, yes I hear the stuffed animal thing too.
It still seems funny to me that people make such a big deal over the SD..I mean you would think we walk around with a Zebra on a leash laugh out loud

On the days I'm not up to having a long conversation I just keep walking, smile and say she's a mobility service dog and then I break eye contact. It seems to work so far. I once had a women ask me what was wrong with me and I told her I didn't discuss my medical history with strangers, she apologized and left...but she came up to me two more times making excuses as to why she asked me laugh out loud she just could not move on and leave me alone to weird/funny confused smile

That sounds bad, SD should never grow. It makes me wonder if she was trying to pass off a pet,ESA or comfort dog as a SD. I would hope an ESA would not act like that even when they don't have access rights.
I was at the store the other day with my husband and this man had a boxer with him it was wearing a cow bell on its neck, and had on of those ID tags you get off the internet..no vest, the man was older had a cane. The dog seemed well behaved until it saw Polly, it went to the very end of its leash and stood on its hind legs just staring at Polly, the guy just kept walking not even aware of what his dog was doing, the dog just kept going up on its hinds legs. Polly looked at me and made a little whine, which she has never done before.

I corrected her and finaly the guy noticed his dog and made it sit and he stayed away from us. I have never seen a SD do the before so maybe not a SD?
I always try to stay away from other SD teams just in case shrug

Well this is really wrong. If taking your step-dad aside and having a serious conversation with him (you are an adult and he needs to understand that and show respect) doesn't/hasn't worked you may need to just stay away from him. Do you need this type of person in your lives.

When my Step-dad was alive he was very hateful about Polly, but he never touched her. I understand your stress. We will need to make a hard decision, His abusive behavior towards your SDIT could cause him to wash out. I wish you good luck with what ever you have to do dog
