Hi everyone, as we posted before we have been very busy creating a new site for Dogster and Catster members over at Marked Turf (www.MarkedTurf.com). We have created community pages to replace the closing Dogster and Catster community pages. They are up and running now.

We offer separate cat and dog forums and groups. The groups can be public or private and you can create subgroups.

After signing up you will complete a short profile that will become your pet page. It is a detailed pet profile, including photos, that will allow the community to get to know your pet better. For those of us with more than one pet you can create profiles for up to 3 of your pets.

You can save and share links of articles of interest, ask & answer pet questions, and friend each other. We have other features in the works. Let us know what is important to you and we'll see if we can make it happen. We are open to feedback so that we can create the best pet community pages on the Internet.

Register as your pet and upload a photo of your pet as the profile photo to get started today.

Stop by www.MarkedTurf.com and sign up. It is free. We hope that we will see you soon.

Hi everyone, please check out our new site Marked Turf (www.MarkedTurf.com). We have created community pages to replace the closing Dogster and Catster community pages. We still have some work to do, but the site is up and running.

We offer forums, groups, nested groups, and pet profiles. You can create profiles for up to 3 of your pets now, including uploading photos. You can save and share links of articles of interest, ask & answer pet questions, and friend each other.

You can register as your pet and upload a photo of your pet as the profile photo. We do not have Facebook logins to avoid the site becoming overrun with human profiles.

We are also open to feedback so that we can create the best pet community pages on the Internet.

Stop by www.MarkedTurf.com and sign up today. It is free. Hope that we will see you soon.

Please also check out the community pages on Marked Turf -- www.MarkedTurf.com. We are busy creating a pet-friendly community where you can create a pet profile, upload your pet's photo as your avatar, add additional pets (for those of us who have more than one), connect in the forum, use the Q&A feature, and create public, private, and group specific groups. We also allow you to control the privacy of your pet's posts and photos such that you can make them public, restrict them to a group, share them with your pet's friends, or restrict them to a particular named pet. Please stop by and give us a try. We are eager to make Marked Turf a good pet home for everyone from Dogster's community pages. www.MarkedTurf.com

Yes, there is a race to get everything up and running in a month. Our site Marked Turf is brand new. If parts of it seem vague its because we just started developing the site in response to the closure of these forums. There are only so many hours in a day, but we are working hard. This morning after receiving your request we added the nested groups functionality. Come over, register, and create a group -- or join an existing group. The forum structure for the Dog Forum is largely in place and it was developed to be educational. Of course more can be done, and we will do more, but please stop by, take a look, and register your pet. We will try to be responsive and pet friendly, but we need members to create a real home. www.MarkedTurf.com

The url is www.MarkedTurf.com

All suggestions welcomed! We are not IT people, but we are pet people so we will do our best to create a pet-friendly community.

Thanks for your pointers. Here is what we have now or are working on:

(a) Customizable page with ability to load photos and video: In terms of a pet page, right now you have an activity page. You control the privacy level of your posts on that page. For example, you can post updates of your pet's day and control the privacy so that they are visible only to your pet's friends, your group (i.e. the dog group or a more narrow group that you create), or just to a particular mentioned pet. It could easily function like a diary for your pet. You can upload photos, link to video, and link to other links. Right now if you create a private account on Youtube or another site and have that site host your video you can like to your videos. We have not looked into hosting video yet, but we will look into it if it is important to everyone. We also have not looked at what will be involved in adding dedicated pet pages to determine whether it is possible. It sounds like a great idea. We can take a look at that in time and see whether it is technically possible and feasible with our current set-up.

(b) Subgroups: You can create groups - public and private. There is no limit on the number of groups so you can create as many as you'd like. Are you looking for nested subgroups? Or just the ability to create a wide variety of groups? Right now the groups are not nested as subgroups, but we can see if that is possible.

(c) Members as pets: You can register as your pet and upload a photo of your pet on the profile. You can post as your pet. You profile can list up to three pets. That number can increase if that is important to you.

(d) Forum. Currently we are frantically working on building the forums so that they will be in place by the time Dogster and Catster close. We will work on making everything pretty after we get the functionality built in. Everything else -- all other functionality and content -- is taking a backseat to our build out of the forums at this time.

You will notice that the site is a work in progress. Be patient and grow with us. If it is glitchy check back. We are making improvements by the day. Right now there are no advertisers or ads. Enjoy the ad-free environment! Eventually that will have to change and we will have to advertise, but a lot will have to be done first. For example, there is no payment gateway set up now so no one can advertise, even if they wanted to. When we get around to figuring out how to get into advertising we'll consider your concerns. There is no ad department so likely the advertising will be via google ads or some other ad feed. Some ad feeds do not allow a lot of control over the type of advertiser that is shown, but we will explore that issue in time. Our focus is on building the structure and content so that members will contribute and stick around. We really have no interest in being controversial.

The directory (which has taken a back-seat to our build-out of the community pages) is Yelp-like in that the community is involved in its creation and build-out by way of reviews.

Hope that helps!

We are busy setting up a community on Marked Turf -- www.MarkedTurf.com It is a brand new site and you have the chance to get in at the start and to make it special. We are open now. You'll see that we are actively working on the site, but it will take us awhile to make it look pretty. It is not only for dogs, but that is because many people have more than one pet in their life and this way they don't have to go to multiple sites to network. There are specific dog areas. We have the Questions & Answers feature, forums, pet profiles, and we are adding features regularly. The goal is to create a very friendly environment for pet people. We are open to suggestions so that we can create the best community ever. Give us a try. We plan to be around for the long haul. welcome

Setting up a community over at www.MarkedTurf.com too -- a forum for dogs and one for cats. It is in the development stage now so it doesn't look too pretty yet, but it will get there soon. Come on over and let's see if we can recreate the fun and keep the connections going with Dogster and Catster friends.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the rapid nature of forum postings, it's quite possible our calculation of the number of ensuing forum posts may be off by one or two or more at any given moment.
