Yes, it's more of a human problem causing the fly situation. Glad the dogs didn't get banned from the beach. I pick up after my dog as well. I hate flies and what they do to dogs.

Just wondering I have friends that live in the high desert. Every time I see dog poo it is hard as a rock, all dried up. Would it be safe to put in a compost bin then? They say their aren't any flies that they see around the poo.

Yes, the pad was in the fenced in area with him. It took a few days then he went on it all the time.

My neighbor says that my bin is too much in the sun. Would that make it hot enough? It is a closed bin, black, and would it cause flies around and mix with the dogs

My dogs is trained to go on the pads. He is only about 3 lbs and is a Chihuahua, they can't regulate their body temps well so going outside when its cold is not a good idea. I trained him by placing a fence in type area for him to stay in with his food and bed, giving enough room to roam. He quickly learned to use the pad.

Haven't heard anything, did you figure out why the crusty ears? Hoping the flies had nothing to do with it, and not scabies.

You say you can use dog poop in a compost bin. I'm sure you are talking about an enclose one right? If not that would leave it wide open for flies right?

The dog I had before this one I did pick up her poop. If I didn't it kill the grass. Plus all the flies it would bring from nowhere. and who wants flies on their dogs?

If it is an immune problem you don't want flies laying there larvae on the open areas. They carry a lot of bacteria. Keep the area clean.
