I'm not sure if someone already suggested this, but another option is to take Willy to daycare at the kennel before boarding him for the 10 days. It will be a low pressure way to get him comfortable to the environment. He'll be familar with the people, the place, the routine and it may not be so new and scary. I think you are right to try alternative methods as opposed to sedating. Dependent on the drug, it may not alleviate the underlying stress, only make him feel drowsy and increase stress because he feels "drugged."

EDIT: Whoops, sorry. Just saw JessAnne already talked about daycare.

I used to growl at my mom when I was younger. Now I understand that she's the pack leader.

I would recommend talking to a dog trainer . . . the corrections with lemon juice are all a good idea, but you also need to treat the underlying problem--not just the symptoms. If it's dominance, then the "No Free Lunch" idea is a great behavior modification program (Mom used that on me with great success). Also focus on the obedience training. That's some of the stuff that helped with me. Good luck!

Hmmm, I'd call the vet if she's not eating and it's been a couple of days after the surgery. Sometimes they can get infections (and suture reactions and such) and need to be on antibiotics. When I was spayed, I was groggy and tired for the first day, then back to my crazy self! Mom said that she wished for more of a break! She also says that with me, if I ever have no appetite, I need to go to the E.C. As you may have guessed, I'm a food hog. Anyway, if she still has little to no appetite call the doctor. Something else could be going on . . .
