Thank you all so much. Sometimes I just get a bit frustrated and have to Howl.

The majority we meet are really nice and my biggest problem with getting through a store is people that are intrigued with her and there are many that just look forward to her dropping by. It's funny how I get the Hi and big smile and they look so sad if they see she is not with me. OK I am only popular because Sadie owns me.
LMAO

But wouldn't ya know it that you got to have 10 good times to make up for the one bad one.
The cool part is it just does not bother Sadie. No matter what the craziness is she just chills. She just lays down and yawns at them.
Maybe I should take my cues from her. They do say that you need to be smarter than your dog.

Hey Sabrina if we put on frilly dresses and sunglasses do you think that they might respond to us more favorably?

Ya know what is really sad about this is that I am the one that always says whatever you do don't back down cause it makes it harder for the next service dog.
On most occasions I handle it firmly but politely. But not this time and in all reality I should have fought back but he caught me on one of my really bad days where my thought processes had gone on the blink and I was already worried about how I was gonna get home.
As it was I couldn't think to even shop and after he got finished with me I stopped trying went to my car and cried.
That's ok though we will meet again and hopefully he will catch me on a good day and the outcome will be decidedly different.
Or better yet catch me on a bad day when I have my daughter with us and then he better forget about the rott beware the child cause she likes Sadie better than she does most people.

Awesome task training.

I know some might think that you are getting to personal but I think it is a question we all need to think about.
People can ask us if they are a service dog and they can ask what they do for us. ( Not What Our Disability is. ) So it is good to be able to kick off something really quick and be done with it. Also it gives people an idea that do not have a service dog and need one what they are able to do for them.

Sadie does many tasks:
Carries items, cleans the yard, picks up the house, gets clothes out of the drier, picks up everything I drop, and that's about everything I touch somedays , turns on my oxygen and brings me the tube brings meds. Fetches my hubby if I am on the floor and can't get up.
The big thing for me though is that if I fall down in public she will lay beside me so I can get my phone and meds out of her vest. It also alerts people that something is wrong medically with me as I have an invisible disability and I collapsed in downtown before I had her and people actually step over me.
They do not treat me that way with Sadie beside me.
She also will put her body under my head if I start jerking so I do not hit the floor. She taught herself that.

She saved my life when I had a heart attack by finding the phone that was stuck in the side of a chair.

If people get pushy I start kicking off a list and they just wanna get away from me.
LOL

I am going to go to jail soon for slapping the next idiot that says that Sadie Mae cannot be a service dog because she is a rott.
If she was a lab or retriever no one would question it but because I travel with a rott I must be lying!!!
I had a man follow me through the grocery store mouthing about having that vicious animal in public.
And the same idiots kid was falling on the floor and screaming and trying to crawl up to her and this kid must have been about 5 or 6 years old. I tried changing aisles and staying out of the way but he kept appearing on the pretense he was shopping.
Explain to me why he was allowed in public with that nasty little 2 legged creature that he calls a child and the ill trained boy was not on a leash????
OK I feel better now. I had to get that out as I am trying to make myself go run my errands but I am so stressed that I just want to go back to bed.

I have a quick method that stops people from petting Sadie Mae without permission. Its an old dog show trick where they reach and I step in front of them ( Just one leg and my hip. ). At this time I also give a quick rundown on safety around strange dogs and how to properly approach them. and about service dog etiquette.

I do allow Sadie to be petted when sitting and with my permission as she is involved in a lot of training of children and adults on safety around animals and how to greet them. So she is handled a lot.

( Quote: So you actually put your hands on this woman? How is that acceptable? In another post in this forum recently, a person with a SD was touched by a manager of a restaurant and you all were calling for him to be arrested for assault. Why is this any different? )

Let's look at this a little different way...
Let's say I am working with one of my problem foster children. Someone runs up and reaches for them, without permission.
One of my girls would just drop and urinate.
The next one may duck their head and hit the ground like they were beaten.
The next one just might snap out of fear.

If I was not paying attention and ready to cover such human error bad things could happen. And of course it would be the dogs fault.

I would hear oh what a bad aggressive dog... Not oh what a stupid human.

How would they feel if we just walk up and grab their child out of the basket and start cuddling them. They would be ready to fight.

I have inadvertently bumped a person when I stepped up. Is it assault ? NO!!!
It's saving them from themselves as even if my dog is friendly the next one they meet might not be. Better I bump them than they lose a hand because of their own stupidity.

No offense was taken here Asher.
wink
I love bouncing theory and training information off of others. Nothing is more fun and informative than getting a group of trainers together and sharing ideas and thoughts on improving methods. I miss that since I have been unable to work.

Your Mom is very well spoken and I checked out your page and found really easy to comprehend information on the loose leash walk. By the way folks if you are having problems with loose leash read Asher's page. It has easy to follow instructions.

It's nice to find another avid clicker trainer as so many people have a hard time changing their thought patterns and trying something new. Nice to meet another enthusiast.

Well put and I should have been more specific. In classes one of my biggest problems was getting new clicker trainers not to click and stuff the treat down their pups throats all in one breath.
LOL
So I had them go click count to one quickly in their head then hand the treat. Not while loading the clicker because yes that is click- treat in rapid succession.
Then as they learned the behavior to count to 2 in their head and then 3 to lengthen the behavior.
Yes when I am training it is in quick succession but with newbies you have to teach them to be calm. Their body language can get frantic.
I can bet when you are training you are standing comfortably in a calm posture and it goes lure, click, treat and it is smooth. Not so with new trainers it gets where you cannot tell the difference between click and treat cause it happens all at once.
LMAO
Ok it's funny to watch but not truly productive. It takes a while for most to pick up the body language in training so I just use little exercises to get them there.
I really like your place exercise it is reminiscent of a clicker seminar I attended at Triple Crown where they used a small low to the ground table.
It was cool stuff.

We LOVE Austin.... The city is so dog friendly and I have never had Sadie questioned at all. It is awesome.

But one of our favorite places is my Drs. office. The last time I went in without her due to knee deep mud covering her I walked into the back and my Dr. and nurse came around the corner and told me I would have to reschedule. I was surprised and asked why and their reply was that I didn't have Sadie Mae and everyone was waiting for her.

Also Walmart and HEB are awesome to her we go to 4 different ones and they know her by name. I went to Walmart the other day and one of the employees came over with the new trainee's and told them... " This is her!! It's Sadie Mae. She even called her a preferred customer.
LMAO
I love it.
And Target employee's are always so nice to us and we do not shop there often but we love the large isles to work behaviors in.

Now Dollar store's AHHHH!!!! It has taken us over a year to break these girls in. Even with the card they act like they do not have a clue. Soooooo we just kept going back
LOL
Now they love us but we had to work at that one.

I do avoid places with a language barrier though as it is just to difficult to transcend and I am not that great at charades.
I really need to learn to speak tex-mex and arabic but I have enough trouble with english.

What I have found is that the good outweighs the bad and ya just have to go with the flow but as always I have to add...
Do not back down as it just makes it harer for the next service dog that drops by.
