ETA: Sorry to bring somewhat bummery news to an otherwise happy thread. But thought the Dogsters would want to know.

Aww, dear Biscuit, I don't think people were trying to be mean. They noticed your person was being a little impatient and pointed it out. You want to learn and grow, don't you? I am quite a bit over 15, lol, and I that's why I am here. I am sure you and biscuit will do fine figuring this out together. Take care.

Behavior & Training > Was Ming in the wrong? (dog fight at the park question)

Ming is quite young for the dog park, imo. Many adult dogs do not have patience for puppy shenanigans (such as not respecting body language)

The other dog's owner did act horribly by spanking an already unhappy dog.

Hi Lucy, Good job. applause

I just passed myself. We thought I didn't passed the first time, got 9 out of 10. But turns out the evaluator forgot she could give us a retry on the one we missed. She called us to come back another day and we did the greeting another person with a dog and I passed.

So all you CGC hopefuls out there don't be timid about asking for your retry. My person did not bring it up thinking I was too far off the mark or that the evaluator did not have time, but it turns out the evaluator was open to it, just in all the business of the day she forgot.

Hi Chamois. Thanks for this positive post! It is nice to discuss things that make us happy.

I went to the dog park for the first time yesterday. There were three or four dogs who came to check me out. Guess they knew I was the new kid. I was a little nervous at first but ended up having a great time!

Behavior & Training > Petsmart Puppy Class! Harley is going to school!

Hi Harley. Pet Smart worked well for us. We started with puppy class around this time last year. Wow the time goes fast! Anyway, we took it all the way through intermediate and advanced, then did some private lessons, and just last week passed the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. All through our local Pet Smart!

We did experience some drama when one of the trainers up and quit with no notice and another had given her notice a couple weeks before. This left the newest trainer stuck with 3 trainers worth of classes and management did not want her to cancel any of the classes. The poor girl was so swamped! I must say she did cope very well and helped us finish off the private lessons. They did then hire a very competent, accomplished trainer who helped us through CGC. So in the end it all did work out.

It also was helpful to be able to go to Pet Smart and work there on your own with your pup. No one looked at us funny or gave us a hard time even though we weren't really shopping. Although it was very tough not to buy something each time we were there.laugh out loud

I guess identify with the dog/handler team as Pep and I are struggling to pass this test.

To me CGC is more about working with my dog than having a really well controlled dog. No dog can come close to passing this test without their human investing time, interest and effort, imo.

And, yeah, once we pass CGC (which we will, sooner or later) we'll be one of those wild, wacky duos that people think "What the heck? That dog is a CGC?' That's ok, I know the effort we put in and I know what my Pep is capable of. big grin
