You can also try probiotics. Anytime any of our pups need an antibiotic we give acidopholis too to prevent digestive upset and to keep the good bacteria working correctly in the digestive system. Plain canned pumpkin can also help along with rice. If it is making her too sick you may have to call the vet and try another antibiotic. Good Luck and I hope she starts to feel better real soon.

Dog Health > Surviving Sarcoma

Wyoming

My Girl Why Girl

Hi Lantis
So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I am a pup that is surviving undifferentiated sarcoma. I was diagnosed in 2007 and had surgery to remove my lump. Mine was on my abdomen and grew to the size of a plum before removal. They did not get clean margins because it was deep into the tissue and they just couldn't get every bit of it. Once biopsied it was staged at intermediate grade. At that point we had to decide whether to undergo radiation treatment followed up by chemo or to try holistic treatment and pray for the best. My Mom opted for the holistic approach due to the fact that radiation and chemo would have been too hard to put me through. I am a horrible patient and any vet visit causes a near meltdown. Mom weighed this against my quality of life and decided I would be happier with the least invasive treatmemt choice. My diet was changed...no carbs, no sugars (they feed cancer), high protein foods along with a number of supplements to keep my immune system strong and fighting. We have been going this route since May of 07 and I am still doing well. I enjoy my days, have a good amount of energy, and my appetitie is still very good. In other words my quality of life is very much there. I turned 10 in June and have no regrets about the decisions made. Someday the few cells that they couldn't get in surgery may metastisize but until they do I am enjoying life and living large. Until you have a biopsy to see exactly what kind of sarcoma you are dealing with you won't know what is the best route but ask lots of questions of your vet. Get more than one opinion, weigh the options and follow your heart. For us it was all about quality of life. I would rather have a shorter time with quality than a longer one with painful treatments, illness and loss of the good days. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you begin this journey but there is hope and I am proof of that.
