I am a behavioral health counselor in a pyschiatirc group home. My job has taught me a TREMENDOUS amount of patience, and the knowledge that not everyone responds well with the same approach. This job has made me very adaptable and often requires me to change the manner in which I interact with each of my clients. My dogs are lucky because I put in my 40 hours a week and do not have any work to take home. Thankfully my boyfriend works from home and the girls are hardly ever by themselves.

Briard, Giant Schnauzer and Weimaraner all tied for first place as my worst match. I am okay with that

I am having a problem with my girls and them barking inside the house. I live in a condo and so there are constantly people in the hallways and what not. The girls will let out the occasional bark or wahtever, but they usually stop quickly and it hasn't been a problem.

I have not received any complaints from my neighbors regarding the dogs barking. I assume when my boyfriend and I leave the dogs are fine at home since I never hear them barking when I pull up, and again haven't received any complaints. When I go to work everyday my boyfriend reports that the dogs are fine and do not bark incessantly. I guess that is because they are already used to my routine.

The problem is now arising that the boyfriend is leaving more frequently and the dogs are not used to this. He works from home and is home most of the time, and typically when he goes out, we are leaving together. But now when he leaves on his own and I'm left with the dogs they bark at almost EVERY noise they hear in the hallway.

This has only been going on for a couple of days, however I do not want to upset the neighbors and I do not want the dogs barking late at night. How can I train them not to bark at everything in the hallway.

Dog Health > Would you change vets?

Leila Lou

Did I hear you- say kisses?

Cherokee- I called the vet's office up and explained to the receptionist that I went to bed and my dog was fine but when I woke up her face was completely swollen. The receptionist told me that the earliest she could be seen was 3pm. I was uncomfortable waiting until 3pm so I told the receptionist that I would just go to the Emergency Vets and she said ok. I got in the car and rushed to the E. vet only to find out that they do not even open until 5pm. At this point I was a little frazzled and didn't know what to do so I just went to the regular vet's office anyways. After the receptionist saw Leila she still said that she couldn't get her in until 3pm and that no vets were in at the moment to look at her. That is all she would tell me. I was not happy with that and wanted confirmation that my dog would be ok until 3pm when she could be seen. The receptionist began trying to answer my questions, but I guess understood she was creating a big liability for herself by telling me Leila wouldn't have breathing problems and fall over and die because she couldn't breathe, so she reluctantly got a vet tech to look at her. When the tech and someone else came into the lobby and saw Leila they were like omd she is bad she needs to be seen now because she is having an allergic reaction. They were able to have a vet in the office within a couple minutes.

I guess I will stay with the vet and just go into the office and ask to see a tech if the receptionist is the same way. I will also mention it to the vet.

I will post a pic of Leila on her page so you can see how pitiful she looked. She is all better now though

Thanks everyone for the responses. This incident actually happened a couple of weeks ago I just never got around to asking the question on dogster. They vet believes it was an allergic reaction to an insect bite. She ended up giving Leila a shot of something, I can't remember what, but stated that it would help to relieve the swelling faster, and then sent us home with a medication to give and also told us to use benadryl. I liked the vet that we saw, however it was the first time that we have seen this particular vet. Thankfully my dogs have been fairly healthy and so I usually only go to the vet once a year. I haven't seen any of the vets in this office on a regular basis, so I don't really have a good relationship with any of them yet. However, I liked the lady I saw during this visit, so she will be the one I request from now on.
