Oh, post pictures of him after he's groomed. I think there will be a very handsome fellow underneath all that mess of hair.

He'll take some time to adjust. You're bringing structure & discipline into a Bohemian lifestyle. He doesn't know thing one about rules & manners.....YET. If he's as young as your vet says, then he is very moldable. Housebreaking is like training--Be consistent! Take him out after every meal, every nap, every bout of playing. Do the full puppy regime--take him out every 20-30 minutes when possible and praise & party like crazy when he does go outside. Being a Cocker, he'll love the attention, and will learn to do the right thing eventually. Good luck! I can't wait to see how this works out for him.

applause Beautifully put, Duncan! Grieving takes time, and when you're ready for your "heart" dog, you'll know. (Or have your heart stolen by accident like many of us here on Dogster) I went 20 years without a dog, and now, can't even conceive of life without one. Be good to the pup, but as long as it has a family bond, it'll be ok if you grieve a while longer.

thinking Pedro has a lot of potential, but that poor boy sure does need some grooming! shock Those mats have got to pulling on his skin. DO check out the link Gunner posted-it had a lot of great info on the breed. They are sensitive, people-oriented souls, and I can't believe someone would just leave the dog unattended. The so-called owner should be horse-whipped!

Infamous phrases:

"Oh, they'll sort it out."
"Why, he/she has never done done that before."
"Well, your dog just doesn't know how to play."
"Show them how tough you are, Fluffy."

Idiots abound and the poor dogs suffer.

Since I'm a pack theorist, I'd say that the dog is protecting her pack. Based on my dog's behavior, she barks at him even if he just walks by........and because he keeps on going, her peeps are safe.
