Overall he's fine. He lost 6 pounds though and has an open wound which may not grow his fur back. Vet says about a month on antibiotics and he should be healed. Considering the situation, I'm just glad he's home and safe now! Thanks again guys.

Hey guys great news!

Goma ran to my friends house last night so he's in safe hands and I'll be able to pick him up as soon as he's done at the vet. I really appreciate all the support from you guys, I knew you would all be able to relate to the situation. And thank you so much for your prayers because they worked.

Thanks for all the helpful advice and emotional support! I have been in and out of nearby shelters and it is so heartbreaking to see all the dogs there. I've followed a lot of the advice and have just been flyering and trying to spread the word so that if someone spots him they will call me.

I'll keep everyone updated.

Maybe I just need another shiba (which I've been considering...) to make him jealous and come home already.

I've never really posted here before but I know you all are experts on Shiba behavior (and I have been leaching for quite some time) so I was hoping I could get some tips on finding Goma.

Some background: Goma is about 2.5 years and I've had him since he was a pup. He is extremely skittish and especially hates male strangers, but is very outgoing with other dogs. He managed to slip out the door on 10/16 when I came home. My friend called me and said she nearly ran over him about a mile away near the UC Davis campus on friday 10/23. I've searched the area myself and with dogs hes grown up with but no luck.

Things I've done so far:
Filed a lost pet report with animal control.
Personally visit animal control.
Handed fliers to all the vets in davis.
Posted on the davis wiki and craigslist.

For all of you that have lost your shiba's in the past, do you have any advice as to what else I should do to try and get him back. He still has his collar on so I am fairly confident that if someone manages to catch him I can get him home, but the problem is that he hides from people. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I miss my shiba greatly and just want to get him home.
