If it gets to the point where you need to show them that being raw fed isn't bad, rawfed.com's myths page might help. rawfed.com/myths

There are other rawfed therapy dogs on here, I think...at least one.

ETA:
I remember sometime in early 2008 there was a thread on here about some therapy dog organizations not accepting rawfed dogs because they were concerned that the dog would spread harmful bacteria to the patients through the mouth.

Guess I'll just have to keep pointing out testimonies, then?
Common sense and what I have learned and experienced tell me that meat-based is best, I just want to be to learn more for other's benefit.

Mainly that corn and grain in general is not "just as good as meat when processed correctly". I have yet to find anything believable that supports this claim, but am also having a hard time finding studies that dismiss it.
The others were not helpful either way, other than the one mentioning that poultry meal produced smaller stool than soy protein concentrate. Again, either way, the studies only said that dogs could survive on corn/soy. I guess ideally I'd like to see a study that has dogs on various diets (corn, soy, various types of meat, perhaps even one group fed a homeprepared diet) and attempts to find out which one the dogs generally did best on. I mean, testimonies are great, but a well conducted study would be even more convincing to those who are still skeptical.

I like the Iams study, but I'm looking for something with more variety.

Thanks, Sedona. I found three of the studies. None of which proved anything other than that dogs can survive on corn. I couldn't find the last three. I'll try looking them up at the libraries in my area.
Food Pets Die For by Ann Martin finally came in and I began reading it yesterday. It's very interesting. Although, I can't find the sources for the claim that much of the grain used in the pet food industry contains carcinogenic pesticides.

I'm frustrated enough to begin bashing my head into a wall right now. I mean, I've experienced too much good from a change in diet to believe that ingredients don't make a difference and even not taking that into account I have no real reason to believe otherwise, yet it's so hard to find more of the information I'm really looking for so that it can benefit others as well.
Part of my frustration is that there is someone who's kinda pressuring me about it. I'd ignore them, but...UGH!
Kriff, I don't even know why I'm actually including that last paragraph...=/.

Raw Food Diet > What do you feed when you travel with or board your dogs?

I haven't run into that problem yet. In the past, others have related that they temporarily let the dog's have kibble when they are travelling. Some let friends keep the dog while they are gone. They pre-prepare simple meals before leaving and put them in ziplock bags, along with feeding instructions.
If he were staying behind, I'd probably do the latter. If Treader went with me, I'd wish to invest in one of those portable freezers and keep his meat in there if at all possible.
I suppose if either option were not possible, Treader would be getting some of Cookie's kibble. Or a good quality canned food, if I could afford to stock up on that.

Cookie's first time eating a cornish hen. She wasn't sure what to do with it at first. Here she's holding the cornish hen because she wanted to eat away from the other dog (not Treader, just a dog we found and cared for for a few days) and I wouldn't let her go where she wanted to.
These pics are from Thanksgiving, BTW.

Raw Food Diet > Isn't Raw Meat Dangerous?

A dog's digestive system is designed to kill almost any bacteria ingested.
As for anything good coming from it, I have seen great results firsthand. And the internet is full of testimonials from other raw feeders. There was also a study done where some dogs were fed a BARF style raw diet. Their stool had more bacteria in it, but more importantly it apparently didn't make them sick otherwise they would have documented that as well.
Clicky.
As for parasites, that's why I want the meat to have been frozen for at least a month before feeding it to my dogs.

Incorrectly fed raw diets can do damage, but a correctly fed and balanced raw diet is beneficial to dogs in general. That's why you need to do your research before starting raw.

For the past few days, pork ribs, ox tail, and elk was on the menu. Since Thursday, we've been feeding pork ribs every day, along with an alternation between ox tail and elk. We have two days left before I need to start preparing next week's meal.
There were no organs this week because I'd fed the entire two week's worth before last Thursday.

Hard to say. I honestly don't know myself and the more I find out about it the more confusing it gets. I just tell myself not to worry about it and feed once a day for convenience's sake.
