I think the feeding 10% body weight for puppies are more for those with unknown adult weight plus the older they get that amount should decrease.
The pup is slim, but that is her build. Like a greyhound.

| Barked: Sun Nov 15, '09 8:45pm PST | | | | | | Thanks. I know when I feed canned tripe, their poop smells like death if I give too much...haha But I never gave the uncanned stuff. Was uncertain how much they could/should get...
I got a response back from Bravo! that their beef organ mix has 1/3 of each organ. Heart, liver, and kidney.
If a dog needs 1 oz of liver (5% diet) and 1 oz (5% diet) of other organs each week. Heart counts as a muscle if I remember... So then each dog needs to eat 3 oz of this mix a week? Sounds right?

The Bravo! organ mix I am looking at has ingredients listed below:
Grass-fed beef organs (heart, liver, kidney)
Would this work? Would I just feed 2 oz each my dogs each week? Or more because heart is muscle? That is the problem with premade. Don't know how much of what... So I just sent them an email to see if they will say.
So it sounds like the variety is okay. I do tend to feed more red meats (mainly beef) than anything else.
Oh, and my hate of organs is also due to it's squishiness. Icky! I hope a premix ground can replace it. Are there good companies on the east coast that allow custom order mixes? (Mississippi spured this interest.)
That also reminds me, how much tripe can my girls get? Is there a percentage to this also? A local holistic pet shop sells Bravo! and I have seen the tripe there, but never bought it. Almost afraid of the smell...haha
To Tessa, I no longer have Mouse. Long story.

| Barked: Sun Nov 15, '09 10:48am PST | | | | | | Every so often I stray from prey model raw and need to reevaluate what I am doing. Please double check my math and I also have a question on organ mixes.
Each dog eats 3 oz of raw food a day. That is 4% body weight a day. One is a 4 pound puppy (9 months old now) and the other is a 5 pound agility dog.
So that is a total of 6 oz of food a day.
So it comes to 42 oz a week.
So that is 2 oz of liver (5%) total a week, plus 1 oz of other organs (2.5%) a week.
So that would mean 1 oz of liver and 0.5 oz other organs each dog a week.
My problem is the organs. I hate the squishy things. Beef more than chicken though. So could I use a beef organ grind mix from Bravo!? Is there another company that makes a mix?
As far as variety to diet goes, they mostly get beef and poultry (chicken, quail, and game hen). Once a week they get salmon too. I used to feed NV's venison medallions for more variety, but honestly that stuff just smells and makes me feel sick to my stomach. Would the beef (no bone), poultry (for bone/meat content), and salmon be enough variety?

I use a dremel here for my dogs every 2 weeks. Sometimes I will let it slide for a whole month since I do keep their nails short. I have polished my poodle's nails before and they do last about a month. I don't like dremeling on nails with nail polish though because I don't want to inhale that... So I would remove it when needed...

| Barked: Tue Oct 27, '09 9:41pm PST | | | | | | I have used HK, S&C dehydrated, and Ziwi Peak before. Goofy got bored of the S&C dehydrated rather quickly. I have to mash canned or other foods into it to even tempt her.. and we are taking about Little Miss I LOVE TO EAT!
HK and Ziwi Peak she likes though. But on both there are things I am not too fond of. One, with HK her poop will smell like rabbit food (disturbing) after being on it for a while time. Two, with Ziwi Peak her poops seem more tar-like (for the lack of a better word). So now I use canned foods when I get lazy and have on hand for emergency food supply. Of course the cans have easy pop off tabs since in case of an emergency, I may not have a can opener.
But if I had to pick one of those 3, I would probably go with HK with added raw meats.

| Barked: Sun Oct 11, '09 2:45pm PST | | | | | | This 3 day weekend was Goofy's first Agility Trial. We did the CPE and had 3 each day for a total of 9. Goofy got qualifiers in 8 of the 9 and got her CL1-F and CL1-R. We didn't do Jackpot or Wildcards this weekend, so couldn't get Level 1 completed. She did get a Qualifier in Level 2 Jumpers though. The one we NQ on was Full House Level 2. It was mostly if not all my fault.
Overall I was so proud of Goofy. She performed better than I could have ever hoped. She got lots of cheers when she finished her runs.
