Choosing the Right Dog > Who is Right for a Pittie?

I have just read some of the other post...and sadly it is true, you and your pitt will always be different and people will not always be kind. You need to have some intestinal fortitude however that being said...what you get in return is a best friend who is always ready for a run, walk or a nap...looks at you like you are the best thing since a pig ear. I have no doubt when I run early in the morning with my girl that not a thing gets by her. When she is not certain of the person at the light standing next to us she moves a bit closer and a bit in front...she is protective not aggressive..I have no fear with her..she would protect me only if necessary. She is a lover not a fighter..she is my dog and I am blessed to know what a gem a pitt can be..So bring on all the dirty looks and if you do not want your dog to play with mine that is fine to each there own.

I can say this I never thought I have a pitt mix...however now that I do..I can tell you this Riley is super smart...so training is key as is socialization I feel foolish for all thoughts I had of the breed before owning one. Riley is one of the best behaved dogs in her play group and yes she attends off leash. That being said she has off leash training, puppy school and advance training all of which she excelled in. From what I have heard from other owners is this... these dogs are loyal, loving and intelligent and very kid friendly...who would not want an animal like that?! Riley loves everyone I have not witness and ounce of aggression. My vet had told me some of the dogs show signs of it however what people tend to forget is that is true in all breeds. Take your time find the right fit and spend the time to make your dog a good citizen and you will never think twice about it again..

Behavior & Training > Potty training not going so well

Logan took forever to pottie train however that being said I only had big dogs before him and the job was done in a week..So I was not prepared for my little man..however my vet did tell me this... the dog either potties inside or outside, meaning if you use pads it will be hard to train your dog to go outside. It confuses the dog,so even though it was winter and he was tiny my vet assured me it would be fine to outside train him...so that is what I did and I also set up a schedule I started taking him out every 30 min at first and moved on from there ..I got him in feb and did not have him completely trained till June. It just takes time with the little ones it will happen you will see...Good luckway to go
