Thanks everyone!

Sienna is fine. Sorry if I was unclear before when saying they would remove the declaw. They were just removing the claw, not the quick. This would be the fastest to heal. With Zuki we have typically trimmed them back but this one was particularly bothersome to her and raw and open. She also doesn't do well with bandaging or the collar on her head so we wanted the fastest solution.

We decided to skip the eye for now. It seemed too risky and too much to have both done at once. We want all her healing energy to go into the paw. We will get the eye done later if she gets her teeth cleaned.

Sienna is home resting and doing fine. Thank you for all your love and support.

thanks everyone. we are leaning towards forgoing the eye but maybe if we sleep on it another answer will come.

pulling the whole claw out, yikes! if it were Zuki (other dog) I would he's actually much braver. he's had 3 claw problems total and never needed anything to numb him or anything. Sienna is ...well...a baby.

Sienna tore her declaw about a week and a half ago. At first the bleeding stopped but then a few days later it was gushing blood everywhere. We took her to the vet and got a bandaging, some antibiotics, collar, and anti-inflammatories. We bandaged it daily. She has been getting to it and wanting to lick it. I was concerned because the nail looked like it was impacting her and I thought maybe part of it could be removed. I had thought they would do that the first time. She's really sensitive to nail clipping in general so I wouldn't dare try it at home! I went back in today to have them get another look at it. Also because she's been shaking a lot and seems like she's probably in pain. (I have had a similar thing happen to my nail and it's soooo painful!)

So the vet gives me a few options: to have them cut her nail back a bit more or to remove most of the claw under sedation. My first instinct was to opt for the second one because they said although it was more invasive it would heal quicker. Then I got the estimate and remembered that a vet (different one same office) this summer said if she was ever getting anesthisia to get a growth in her eye removed. Well of course this is about $200 more due to having to be general anesthesia. Then they want $100 for bloodwork. She's 9 years old and in good health so they weren't insisting on this.

My concerns are of course that ansethisia is risky and also that it is getting to be a lot of money. I don't even know the risks of having a sty. Maybe I need to talk to the vet more?

My questions are:
--do the full claw removal or just part?
--do the sty removal or just the claw?
--do the bloodwork or chance it?

Thank you!!!!!!!

Zuki's leg has been ok, other than the wound acting up from the new brace we got him. The issue now is that he's been fainting again.

Zuki has fainted again. 2 times in the last 3 days. Once it was after he went up the stairs and tonight it was after we had come home after being out. He tends to pant heavily afterwards. We have a call into our vet who is out until Monday. frown

Thanks for all the suggestions and rosettes. I appreciate all your thoughts. I don't think a harness will work for me right now. Dad has been helping me because mom's back was hurting. Also, I've been getting up the stairs a bit better. We're not sure if it's the medicine though.

Mom and dad got a rug that covers most of the hardwood floor, so I haven't been slipping as much, and if I fall at least it's on a soft surface. I've been resting a lot but no walks--just out in the yard.

Mom busted her finger (she slammed it in a door!), so dad's typing this. She hopes to respond to you when it feels better. But it looks like that'll be a while.

Luv,
Zuki

thanks everyone for the prayers. i think i'll go rest down after the VET wore me out. i have to say i have the best vet in the whole world. luv, zuki

Zuki update:

We took Zuki to the vet today to discuss falling down and mobility issues. The vet suspects arthritis or another condition that is limiting the efficiency of the spine. He prescribed anti-inflammatories. We are on a 2 week trial to see if it works.

The doctor brought up "quality of life" which of course upset me a lot but we all three concluded that Zuki's quality of life was pretty good for his age and conditions.

Let's hope the meds work!
