Norco is apart of the Inland Empire and the Inland Empire especially during the summer months gets very hot. It is 20 degrees hotter then Orange County alot of times and especially during summer it gets very hot. Also remember southern CA will still occasionaly be hot in the winter. You can only look at certain parts of the property, I heard and they are really strict on that.

| Barked: Sun Nov 29, '09 1:42pm PST | | | | | | Like I said I live near the rescue. Because of stories I have heard is the reason I am not visiting it. Honestly, I am afraid of them. These people have no problem with lawsuits and they will sue. I am also a student and have to worry about bills and not lawsuits, etc. I figure all I can do is spread the word and that is what I am going to do right now. Maybe in the future I would but I do know the city of Norco has investigated them before. From an article in the paper like 6 years ago I know there was a huge investigation on them. I am guessing it hasn't affected them though.
I have actually tried to volunteer at that rescue years ago but they never responded back to me. I might try again and see if I can get footage of the property. I don't even know where in Norco it is located. Norco is a good size city but it is very rural and I tend to get lost lol.
I do remember reading something else saying that a plumber had even reported them and they interviewed him on what he saw.

Also I have to agree with a previous poster about the Standard Poodles. My uncle has trained all of his dogs to hunt (except my aunt's little dachshund mix) He has had everything from Dobermans to Standard Poodles. His late standard poodle was an awesome hunting dog. My cousin (his daughter) now owns her own standard poodle and basset hound and both of their dogs also hunt.

| Barked: Sun Nov 29, '09 1:17pm PST | | | | | | I honestly feel with the sporn I have more control. Our trainer first reccomended the gentle leader. Belgian hated it and just was not working with it. Then she told us to try the easy walk harness. I tried it and it helped a bit. He still pulled really bad. Then I went to a choker which I never reccomend and my trainer at the time never knew I used it. That made him reactive to other dogs and even though I was using it right, the walk was never enjoyable. I then did further research and found the sporn halter and I bought that and was amazed. Belgian tried to pull a few times but then just stopped and it was so much easier to regain his focus.
I then started to do the reverse direction with the Sporn halter on and to be honest, I do not even need the harness in public anymore. He is no longer reactive to other dogs, he rarely pulls, and is focused extremely well on our walks. In fact one of our big accomplishments last year was we walked right into a rattlesnake. Belgian saw it but listened to me and left the snake alone. I was able to back him up and get both of us out of harm's way as well.
I use the original sporn halter. The only thing I do not like is that it seems like the strap comes loose really easily. I find if I hold the black string part (sorry it is hard to explain) it does not come loose and I have even more control.

I have much of my family in Montana and Louisiana. I am very close to the Montana family and drive all the way up there every year from southern California. One time I was going up to spend Thanksgiving with my family and I just had to pull over. It was very cold and below 0 and snowing something I am not used to. What made me pull over was two giant pyrs guarding the sheep right next to the highway. It was so awesome to see these dogs work. Of course there was a fence preventing the sheep from crossing. It was awesome. Montana is also having some serious wolf problems right now which makes me wonder if that is what had the dogs so close to the fence.

If you know what the difference is then just admit Pippin is right. Herding dogs and guardian dogs are not the same thing. Pippin isn't trying to cause arguments, his mom wants make sure there is accurate information on the breed she rescues, owns, works and shows. She works closely with pyr rescue and other breeders so I am sure she knows what she is talking about. I would trust an experienced pyr owner like her any day. Telling her that you know more then her is little kid games and is simply rude. I am sure everyone who knows Pippin and his owner would agree that she is very intelligent when it comes to her pyrs.
I would and have done the same thing Pippin has done right here if I saw incorrect info on labradors or goldens. No one knows everything on every single dog breed and we can't all have experience with every breed out there as it is impossible. We all have to read and educate ourselves on the breeds. There is alot of accurate information about breeds in many books and online.
