Hey there, cutie patootie! I'm an admin on Bodacious, and you can expect an invite coming your way. It will come to you via the e-mail address you use to login to the site, so look for it there.

We have seasoned experienced Bullmastiff owners in the group, and to boot one incredible behaviorist who has a knack for (and is an onwner of) Bullmastiffs. Her advice and evaluations are absolutely priceless.

Check your e-mail buddy, then post away in the group! We'd be happy to have you!

Choosing the Right Dog > Brussels Griffon

Besides the French Bulldog, the Griff is just about the only other small dog I'd ever consider bringing into my home. Good choice, my friend! (I love the smoothe haired version, too! wink)

I've always been smitten with the breed, but about a year ago my Mom drug me into a Petland kicking and screaming. I fell in love with a little no-nosed monkey faced dog and asked to see and hold her. I still don't know how I managed to get out of there without her. She was the most precious adorable thing I'd ever seen in my life, but I could so see myself spoiling her downright rotten and that is just about the polar opposite of what this particular breed needs.

They are sprite playful inquisitive little creatures, with a lot of big dog personality and attitude. I personally have a Bullmastiff mentor who is also into Griffs, and her Griffs rule the gigantors with ease. With that being said, it's probably not hard to believe that they can cop quite a bit of 'tude and have a tendancy to take over and become hard to handle in a home where they don't have structure and a clear set of limitations, rules and boundries. They for sure need an owner with a stronger will than they have. They are very intelligent, and can solve just about any puzzle including how to properly get back at you when they don't get their way. (Be careful when you put your shoes on!)

As far as health problems go, they are minimal. They come with the usual respiratory and eye problems that all brachyephalic breeds with the short noses and big ol' bug eyes do. I think like with most other small breeds they can have some dental issues as the age, too.

I'd say go for it! Bam-Bam needs himself a little sidekick! If you want a breeder referral or two, I can get a couple from my mentor and I know Bob's Mom has looked at many-a-Griff breeders, too!

I can feel my jealously setting in...laugh out loud

Choosing the Right Dog > Poodles, or something else?

Tank- I think the conern is mainly the lack of reasoning behind the want for a Poodle.

I myself would love to have a Standard Poodle, but my reason is because of their exceptional somewhat seemingly flawless temperament. The general consensus here is that getting a dog for the soul purpose of wanting to practice grooming on them is just not a justifiable reason.

If that is really what you're wanting I'm sure there is a crowd out there that would be willing to let you practice on their Poodle, ect. A free groom in exchange for some practice/experience? I know I'd be game!

I applaud you wanting to adopt a dog, especially a senior, but look long and hard at the reasons before going into a life-long commitment!

That's how I got my parents, Sedona! You better be careful or you're going to end up with a new brother! shock

Grace didn't even crawl into anybody's lap, and they STILL brought her home! A decision I know I regret was made, and after some of her antics today I think my Mom does, too. big laugh

Those faces are like kryptonite. Stay away! Stay away!

Trigger- Thank-you for the compliment! You're pretty handsome yourself! Runner? I'm barely a walker! "Slug" might define me better than anything. big laugh

My sister (a Boxer trapped in a Bullmastiff body) who weighs 60 pounds less than me eats the same amount, but is super duper active. That goes to show how tough it is to give anybody an amount to feed because the variables are just so wide and tough to pin-point for an individual unless you're living with them!

Stinky- Is there anyway you could purchase food online? I've found that it's only about $5 more to purchase online then it is to go to the store 10 miles away. When you figure in the convienence and much wider variety it's practically priceless, too! If not, we understand though!

Edit: I probably should add we feed Orijen. We feed about 2/3 the amount of Orijen that we did of the Solid Gold Wolf King we used to feed because of it's high calorie content. So of course, that makes a difference too! big grin

4 cups?! Whoa! Zeus is 135 pounds and eats 3 a day! big laugh

If I had to pick between the companies purely because of the company and what I felt the most comfortable with, I'd go with California Natural.

However, really what it depends on is what Stinky does best with.

Have you looked at Nature's Variety foods? Are they avaliable in your area? The French Bulldog family (of what used to consist of three dogs) we've been petsitting for years feeds this brand, and two of them had pretty severe food allergies that previously could only be "contained" by that blasted z/d ULTRA. Just a little food for thought my handsome friend! wink

Dogster Lifestyle & Entertainment > Do you consider your dog your child?

At this point in my life the dogs fill up the space where a child would go. My world basically revolves around them and I would do anything for them, but they aren't treated as furless kids.

They are not allowed on the furniature or beds, not for any other reason but to keep attitudes and egos in check. We put an ax on giving the them kisses for somewhat of the same reason. Both of these were targeted twoards the canine language of staying out of the alpha's space. (However, our breed tends to somewhat dominant so these are meerly prevenative measures. It is of the upmost importantance to me that I am the one running my house, not them.)

At the end of the day they are my extremely well-mannered, polite and respectful dogs which is what I've raised them to be. However, just because they're my dogs doesn't mean I can't love them just the same and as much as children. I don't need to spoil them with the material things that dogs don't really care about. I give them their basic primal needs and a whole heck of a lot of love (and some treats and toys here and there) and as far as I can tell that's more than good enough for them.
