We haven't been on Dogster in ages so imagine my surprise when I got so many lovely POTP gifts! Thanks so much to my sweet pal Yoshi for posting this, and for everyone thinking of me.

I have been sick now since the end of June, and have been to every specialist in town. I had to have the metal plate in my left knee removed because it was infected. My platelet level dropped so low after surgery that they thought I was a goner. I fought my way back from that. Then a few weeks later my eyes got messed up. The right one is completely filled with pus, and the left one is about 1/3 full. Ma keeps torturing me by putting stuff that stings in them. I was finally diagnosed yesterday with lymphoma. The doctor thought I had it, but just couldn't find it. My cancer doctor gave me my first shot of chemo today, and told ma that it will help clear my eyes out, too. One of my park pals said that I look like a zombie.

I have been fighting hard to get better and I know with everyone's POTP I can get back to my old self. I'm just not ready to give up and leave my family yet. I just got a new Newfie brother so I have to get stronger to show him who is boss - he thinks he can boss me around right now.

We are so sad to hear about Isabel's passing. She was a wonderful pup.

My heart breaks for her dad and Rosie - she must be so sad, too.

Rest in peace, sweet Isabel. little angel

I agree with you, Smoke. Just because I don't live in LA doesn't mean I'm not worried about this legislation coming to my area.

Pam Anderson and Denise Richards star as "two good-intentioned but intellectually-challenged ladies"... I don't think acting was required.

We won't be seeing it!

Actually, I can grasp the concept of shelter animals being PTS in California and every other state in the Union. I don't need to be a citizen of CA to know that this is a bad bill, and support my friends in CA that will be harmed by this bill. I don't see this bill reducing the number of shelter animals PTS. Responsible owners will get their pets spayed and neutered regardless of this bill. Irresponsible owners will not. When the Animal Control officer tells them they have to or face a fine, I don't see them running out to get a spay or neuter. I see them surrendering the animal to a shelter. Then they will get another animal from a BYB or puppy mill which this bill does nothing to address.

Dog Laws & Legislation > Shock collars on the genetals

The original post and the Chicago Reader article make me sick. Shocking on the genitals?? cry Hurting any dog this way is horrendous, but a Newfie??? Such gentle giants. Sirius gets a hurt look on his face when people pass by and don't stop to hug him; can't imagine how much harm was done to that gentle giant. I hope the criminal justice system throws the book at this "dog whisperer". If not, all I can say is Karma is a bi!*#.

I just wanted to chime in our personal experience. Elvis has given great information about Newfies. We were so lucky when we rescued Sirius. We knew very little about the breed and were going to call the Newfie rescue if it didn't work out. Once I hugged Sirius and looked into his loving eyes I was forever changed. This breed is so wonderful. We will have many more in our lifetime. If you can handle the shedding, grooming, and slobber, Newfies might be for you!

Try the New-Pen-Del regional Newfie club. The rescue information is at this link http://www.newpendelnewfclub.com/rescue.html
Sorry I don't know the codes to make it a clickable link. I hope your friends find the right Newfie. We are just too loveable!!

Choosing the Right Dog > Besides Labs which breeds love water?

Did somewoof say water and Newfoundlands? Oh yes, we love the water! We were bred to do water rescue, haul fishing nets, and we can also pull carts. We swim like fishies! Our paws are webbed, coat has waterproofing oils, and our tail is an excellent rudder.

If you want a giant, loving, goofy dog, a Newfie may be the right choice for you. We do tend to slobber a lot. If you like a clean house, don't get a Newfie 'cause we are always shedding, drooling, and bringing lots of dirt and leaves in the house. We also require lots of brushing so if you don't like to brush longer fur, we might not be the right choice for you.

Good luck. I hope you find the perfect breed for you!

P.S. If you have mini two-leggers, we are excellent babysitters! I love kids so much; I can't think of many things that are better!
