HI there. I'm new, coming into a new family to help mend their broken hearts. I think I might be collie Xstaffy cross but who knows. I was found in a river and spent time at the RSPCA. I get to go to my new home tomorrow, but they dont know what to name me. What do you think? Contenders: Archie? Otis? Scout? Rueben? Parker?

Its been a very long time since I have been on dogster. I came frequently when Charlie Pete was a young boy and causing me grief. And now there is bigger grief. My boy left me on Thursday....very suddenly. He had a cardiac hemangiosarcoma that ruptured and he bled out. Was fine in the morning and gone 6 hours later. This was the dog that changed me. He caused me grief and pain, but gave me joy that I dont think I'll ever have again. I adored him. My heart. My boy.

I've got no good advice to offer here....I have two mixed breed mutts (that I adore). But just wanted to chime in that I love the way you are carefully considering this and making an informed choice. We should all be so wise.

Trotters = Toothbrush!! laugh out loud

My two quite enjoy a trotter on occasion. Indeed a lot of bony bits but also good tendons...does quite a job of cleaning teeth. I've not had problems with chipped teeth. I think these are all in all softer than some other bones.

I'll leave this to Duke for his good answer. Thanks. We live in NZ so might not have the same brands available.

Hi there

I dont consider myself expert at raw feeding but I do have a bit of experience with this. My boy Charlie-Pete does this after eating bone and recently had a pretty nasty episode of something getting stuck. I had a long chat with a vet who strongly supports and advocates raw. She said that this indicated that the flora in his gut was not well enough balanced to be able to fully digest the bone so that after a while he had digested everything else, but would need to vomit up the residual bone. So she recommended starting him on probiotics. Hes been on these for about 3 weeks now...in another week or so I'll try giving him bone again to see if it works. But it's something you might want to think about.
