Choosing the Right Dog > Should "Hybrid Breeds" be Promoted

Here I- come..ready or- not!

Well, I am the owner of a 9 year old Goldendoodle. I had never heard of them when I saw them on a website. I live in Michigan and had to travel to Toronto Canada to pick him up. He was the first one my vet had ever had in his practice. About three years later they were EVERYWHERE! My dog was health tested and so were both parents.

Since then, I had two more standard poodles, one which is a therapy dog. When I do my hospital visits, I can't tell you how many people have doodles of some sort at home. They have a lot of health problems because breeders just throw whatever together. I tell everyone to avoid getting a designer dog because good breeders are out to better their breed, not mix it with a completely diffferent one.

I love my dog, but I NEVER promote designer dogs. I just had NO IDEA that it would turn into this when

Food & Nutrition > how far do you drive?

I drive probably 30 miles each way, but I like to go to a store about once a month across the street. The dog food I buy is $9.00 cheaper per bag, so it's worth it to me and about $15 dollars cheaper than ordering anywhere online.

Take him to the Vet ASAP. I almost died. Had 8 inches of dead bowel removed at 8 months old due to a sock. Vetly had about 2 hours left to live. I"m now 5.

Food & Nutrition > Store said Diamond Food okay to purchase again?

My mommy did switch us to Nutrisource, but in one month they raised the price of a 33 pound bag by $8.00. I am now being switched over to FROMM. I was just checking since the store is restocking again.

I had been on Kirkland lamb and rice for a couple of years before all this happened.

The store that sells premium pet food in my area said that they have been getting new shipments of Diamond Food and that is has been cleared by the FDA?

Is that true?

Harvey,

Thank you for your input. Yes, they did do xrays and I could see where it was not in the socket all the way. My breeder is just horrified and has all of her dogs hip certifications listed on her site. I guess it happens anyway.

Please keep in touch because I may need support through this.

Thank you. We go back in two weeks for another check up. I also made an appt with Michigan State. There is a video on youtube of a dog 5 months post FHO from Michigan State, and honestly I can't tell which one had the surgery. It's running every where.

IDK.

I'm just devastated and spent last night in complete tears. My kids are getting grown up now, and I have always loved dogs and had them my entire life. I decided to join a program and just graduated the first of May with a certification in Pet Therapy. I had just started my visits and was loving it. Posh and I are SOOOO close, and I absolutely LOVE HER!

I never noticed a problem with her legs at all and just thought she hopped when runnig because it was her style.
About a month ago she started limping when outside running around with her brothers. I thought she had a pulled muscle. It got better everyday and then went away. I never thought anymore about it. Yesterday I come home from work and she could not use her left back leg at all and was holding it up. I quickly called the vet and they diagnosed her with hip dysplasia and possible ACL problem. She is supposed to rest for two weeks and then we go back.

Her parents were both tested for everything, but I guess it happens anyway sometimes. I'm just sick. I had a dog with hip dysplasia before and it was not any fun, but even then they never quit using their leg completely. This came on so fast, I just don't understand.

Do you think I should get FHO surgery? I can't afford hip replacement. I think I should get a second opinion and live close the Michigan State University, which has a wonderful vet teaching program.

Anyone have this surgery? Plese answer if you have anything input.

Sadly,

Mindy and Posh

I've had my dogs on Kirkland Lamb and Rice, but now don't know what to do. My daughter had her dog on Diamond Naturals, but it had the recall number.

A store in my town also sells a product called Earthbound that people are buying instead of Diamond. Anyone heard of it, and what do you think?
