agreed JP....with chosing a breed it'd be great to know
although you'd be surprised at the percentages in humans
and expecting does help accepting (whoever said that)

Lucee,
thanks for the thanks big grin
and thanks so much for posting the thread
I never even thought about it because I always thought it was normal....even though my theory was not comfirmed (eating grass to cleanse the stomach, etc.)
Enjoyed browsing the web to see what was out there....almost all of the posts referenced the article I posted and it all made sense to me so it eased my mind
I'd plant the doggie grass in large bucket pots if I were to grow some,
seems like it'd be easier to isolate from the crappy grass
As far as the yard.....who cares what the neighbors think
laugh out loud

Frankie babie!
I vote you give mama a no seizure gift for the Holidays!
It's really great for mama to know the signs leading up to a seizure.
She'll be ready to be there for you, although I'd bet she is always there for you!
hug
We think of you and pray for you and your mama every single day!
lubb you lubb you lubb you!
Mama is searching for her No Seizure Fairie Dust to send you way!

just my 2 cents
I have not idea....and I don't want to know.
If they (2 boxers, 1 yorkie) get cancer they get it.
Not worth stressing over something because of a percentage.

hey girl
it's a boxer thing
mineral oil works wonders
mama puts it on us with her finger every day and our noses
now stay soft
older dogs (as was already mentioned) have it more pronounced but the mineral oil works on them too
cheer my 2 cents

sorry for the cut & paste since some dislike them
but I'm not preaching, just sharing
intersting topic really

Eating Grass
Holly Nash, DVM, MS
Veterinary Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc.

Q. Why do dogs eat grass?

A. Dogs commonly eat grass, and there are several explanations that have been offered for this behavior. One, wild canids (e.g., wolves and fox) eat all of an animal when they catch it. Since they eat many herbivores (plant-eating animals), they end up eating a lot of grasses and plants that were in the intestines of these animals. In addition, they have been known to eat certain berries and other plant material. Dogs then, may eat grass because, in reality, it is a normal part of their diet.

Many times, dogs will vomit after eating grass. Did they eat grass to make them vomit? Or did they vomit because they ate grass? It is a mystery, but it seems that some dogs may eat vegetation when they have an upset stomach.

The third reason - they just like it. Some dogs have certain species of grass or plant material that they will search out and eat. We know a beagle who can pick raspberries faster than his owner.

In any case, grass eating is basically a normal behavior, and is not of concern unless your dog does it excessively.

my 2 boxers and my yorkie all eat grass....the boxers I endearingly
call Cows because they graze just like a cow.....like yours
my understanding is that all dogs do this inherently to cleanse their GI system
more if they have an upset tummy
nothing to do with learning it or lack of quality food
just something they do
no harm at all

I could be wrong.......so I'll check back and see what becomes of this thread
