pan sear the meat(just a few seconds on each side) also try giving it at room temp.

It took Puck 3 days of pan searing before he just ate it.

depending on activity, 2% of weight is normal... if more active 2.5 to 3% is fine.... Puck would eat forever if we let him.... if losing weight add a little more, if not then what you are feeding is fine.

Raw is not a fad diet.... it was what was fed before dog food was invented.....wink

Do you add any vitamin E?

Do you rotate proteins? Beef, chicken, etc? If so after any changes does the problem erupt?

I do not use prepackaged raw, but do check with the company to see if others are reporting issues.

It is possible for you pup to be reacting to a protein, or an environmental issue. Try tracking what is fed and what he is exposed to to try and find a link.

If it is monthly, by any chance are lawn treatments done around that time?

Raw Food Diet > Newbie ?..Getting him to chew vs swallowing whole..

Puck doesn't chew his food much. I do give him smaller chunks just to ease my mind. It seems if they can swallow it, they do not bother chewing.

Puppy teeth do hurt, maybe try tossing pieces into bowl 1 at a time.

Raw Food Diet > How do you work out how much to feed when feeding half and half?

I would 1/2 both amounts. If the raw is slightly less, use just a little more kibble.

Just be careful. Carcass is a lot of bone and not much meat, as far as I know. Bone s/b 10%, need muscle meat and eventually organs.

Chicken thighs might work better.

Raw Food Diet > So you are interested in feeding raw ...

For the organs, lightly sear in a hot pan, just a few seconds on both sides, it will bring out the flavors for them to be interested in them. I only had to do this for a couple of days until Puck realized he liked it.

For RMB's, try pork necks, there isn't too much meat, and the bone is easier to chew. If it is bone you are including in the meal, chicken bones work the best.

A vet check is the 1st way to go. Could be a UTI. If that comes back fine, ensure you clean any areas he has marked and try taking him out a little more.

We live in NJ and stay on heartworm year round, we used to do partial year, but temps aren't cold enough long enough to end the risk... Not worth the risk or worry to me.

Paws crossed for negative test!!! Please check with your Vet on how bad your town is for heartworm.

Spuds was 2 when neutered, his personality stayed the same. Puck is around 3 and was just neutered. I say go for it, it will help eliminate any mistaken litters if other pet owners around you have unfixed females.
