Teeko Home at last. It- was Destiny     Barked: Tue May 14, '13 10:44am PST  Oh sure, all purebreds go to good homes... Are you kidding me? Pretty sure Teeko is purebred husky. What I know of his life so far is that he was rescued from being chained up by one owner, fostered through a shelter, adopted to another person who let him run free too much, get hookworms, and either shaved him or let some punks shave him for kicks in the winter. Ace Mischief is my- middle name     Barked: Wed May 1, '13 5:08pm PST  My daughter was only 18 when she got her dog from a shelter, no problem with being able to sign a contract for him. Quite likely wouldn't have been approved by a husky rescue though, at that age and living in an apartment. Ace Mischief is my- middle name     Barked: Wed Apr 24, '13 6:23pm PST  Ace is another that pulls and lunges to try to meet other dogs when she's on leash, but it's all friendly. I'm pretty confident she was well socialized during the three months she spent with a rescue, between 4-7 months old. Once we've run across the same pup a few times, she's much calmer seeing them down the road or across the street on-leash. Ace Mischief is my- middle name     Barked: Wed Apr 24, '13 6:10pm PST  I bought what I think was called an Easy Walk harness. It has a D ring in the front of the neck. It is surprisingly effective on Ace, and somewhat good for Teeko - he still pulls, just not as persistently. I only have one, and Ace seems to have better manners with a regular harness now. She's not perfect by a long shot (SQUIRREL! BICYCLE! DOG!) but isn't regularly pulling as a habit. Teeko wears it most of the time now, and does fairly well on it. Small Dogs > Opinions on dog parks...

Ace Mischief is my- middle name     Barked: Tue Apr 16, '13 1:41pm PST  Despite one scary fight, I still take my dogs to the dog park. I really do prefer that people keep their small dogs on the small dog side, but mine are okay with them, I just worry about another big dog that isn't. I can walk my dogs all day, and it does nothing to release their energy like a good run and chase session at the dog park does. Huskies gotta run. 2-3 visits a week about does it. But the hours I go, there are rarely more than a handful of other people there, and sometimes we have the place to ourselves. Ace Mischief is my- middle name     Barked: Sat Apr 13, '13 7:05pm PST  Earlier this week I noticed a squishy lump on Ace's side and took her to the vet. Vet drained the lump with a needle, coming out with what looked like somewhat watery blood (to me, anyway). Ace is on Rimadyl and antibiotics. Vet said if it keeps coming back, surgical intervention may be needed. Said it was probably a healed over stab or puncture - I didn't think she said it was REALLY infected, but got the impression the antibiotics were more preventive. Vet suggested warm and cold compresses and to massage the area. The lump is back, but not as large as before... I'm hoping meds and massage bring it back down. Not sure how long such a thing takes to form. There was a dog park scuffle over a couple of weeks ago, where a Doberman went after her after she went in to defend Teeko. I didn't see much blood except from the humans (myself included) who were breaking it up, and if I thought Ace had gotten bitten deep, it would have been around her neck, because that's where the Dobie really seemed to have latched on. Ace has seemed fine. Doesn't mind me squishing it around, even now that a needle was used to drain it. Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I push for surgery rather than the wait and see? Or have people had this kind of thing resolve itself? I don't know for sure it was from the dog park, or how long it's been building up. I just noticed it earlier this week petting her, so maybe it was something else and it popped up quickly...
