Caribou(fost- er) 1295674     Barked: Sun May 19, '13 4:00pm PST  I am on my fourth foster puppy, I foster and help out with a rescue. So Caribou is my newest foster puppy and he is 3 months old. He seems to be nervous and shy this was a pup who had parvo and survived he also was in a high kill shelter. He is super sweet motivated by food and affection. Wondering best things to help build confidence in him? I am going to the clicked training with him and first then to teach is to touch my hand. He is very submissive and if you even even raise your voice he cowers or rolls on his back. He has like a tiger brindle coat and it is darker then it looks in photos. Deia- *adopted * 1286636     Barked: Mon May 13, '13 11:22am PST  I was also thinking maybe the toddler had gotten food or maybe the dog had food. We don't know the whole story but that could be a possibility think of a 2 year old could easily get the dogs food treats bones etc. I also agree about people being able to read body language there could of been warning signs prior and maybe the parents punished it for those signs. And I honestly think maybe the mother was in the shower or maybe asleep. I just don't see how she goes to the bathroom and doesn't hear the child being mauled by the dog. The dog could of been fine when the parents were around but not being left alone with the toddler. But my friend works at the shelter the dog was sent to and even saw the dog and tempermant tested it and it did nothing. But she was the one who told me about the father. I feel terrible for the parents but also terrible for the dog being put in that situation. Think of what that 2 year old did to the dog, I mean some people don't have common sense. So recently in the news were I live, a terrible thing happened. A mother left her 2 year old alone with the dog while she went to the bathroom and the dog mauled the toddler to death. I don't understand parents you NEVER LEAVE A DOG AlONE WITH A CHILD. And worst of all the dog is a pit bull so you know how people already label them killers or aggressive. The dog was taken to a shelter and tested for behavior and was fine being tested but was scared to death and had to be put to sleep because of killing the child. Mozart I am Fearless     Barked: Sat Apr 27, '13 2:02pm PST  Ever since we moved, I have had three different people think that Mozart is a Lowchen he really is just a mutt a Bichon Frise poodle mix. They go on to say he is so beautiful and looks like a Lowchen they have or had. My question is aren't Lowchens pretty rare and expensive?I don't know a lot about the breed feel free to tell me more about the breed.Or do these people think they have Lowchens and really they are mutts or a different breed? my posts | my page | msg me | my family's posts | gift me | become pals [notify]

Sports & Agility > Best sports for small dogs?

I forgot to put that I don't want to him to be in a sport were he competes just something like classes for fun. He does like agility we have equipment and we do it in our fenced in yard. But also think rally would be good and maybe some type of scent tracking? He loves to chase the squirrels and chipmunks in the yard. He has almost caught a chipmunk in the yard multiple times. Just the other day he was chasing one and was on top of it almost got it but it ran up a tree, now every time we go out there he stalks that area waiting for it and will not even go to the bathroom. Mozart I am Fearless     Barked: Thu Apr 25, '13 8:36pm PST  We have a fenced in yard and the dogs go outside and I am always supervising them and if I go inside I can see them from the window. Anyways today I noticed some type of red circle on Mozart it was very red like a bright red almost like fresh blood it was flat. I tried to see if it was blood and it would not come off. I grabbed some coconut oil and put it on it. Now a couple hours later it looks completely different it is light in color and looks like a red ring and there is a mark that is red in the middle of it. To me it look like he may have been bitten by some insect. He seems 100% himself so I did not rush him to the vet our vet is 40 minutes away. I am Wondering what type of bite this could be? Is there anything I should look out for or be worried about? Mozart I am Fearless     Barked: Sun Apr 21, '13 3:01pm PST  Wondering the best dog sports for smaller dogs? Mozart weighs 10 lbs and I am interested in maybe trying a dog sport I would like to do agility classes with him. I found a great training place that does a bunch of different dog sports. Mozart is extremely intelligent and knows 30 different tricks he is driven by food and two of his favorite toys Frisbee and his bird ball it whistles. He does have a decent amount of energy and besides teaching him news tricks he gets bored. The only problem I have is basic obedience he knows basic commands and I am always Practicing them in different and more distracting environments, just not sure how he would be in a class with other dogs he has never been to a training class. Maybe I should consider private classes or try an obedience class with other dogs first? Any suggestions?
