Your dog should be comfortable in most situations and if you know she has a fear or water you need to work on that so that shes comfortable around it. You never know when you'll be in a situation around bodies of water and your SD will shut down when you need them

Thanks Chaplin! It got a little stale in the middle I must admit but since our trip to the nationals he's changed so much and took everything he was exposed to SO well, he's become a MASTER at going under tables, even moreso than Voltaire and he's learning alerts from Voltaire.

It doesn't -always- work for -every- dog. There are a variety of methods that work VERY well for different dogs. Positive only isn't, contrary to popular belief, the end all-be all.

IF your dogs were anything other than poodles, Bichons, PWDs or similar breeds it did them much more harm to be shaved than to keep their insulating undercoat and heat shielding topcoat. Double coated breeds (which are most breeds even including some "short"coated breeds) are not to be shaved. But with PWDs like the OP's dog and Poodles etc. It's ok because their coat is different.
