They can have serious temperament problems though, so finding a really good breeder would be key. Tiller knows a lot about the breed. I'll have to check with the SO about exactly how much they did with the English Pointer and what he knows about training bird dogs. I'll be sure to double check on that though. The mentor is a good idea. From what I've heard of this breeder, he's extremely helpful and I imagine would be able to point us in the right direction. They could have easily published something about reputable breeders (and have, I believe) without it being attached to a subpar kennel. And yeah, the fact that he's already breeding the first GSDs he's ever owned speaks to how little experience he really has with the breed. Don't think I'd ever even heard of a Portuguese Pointer. Interesting looking dog! I will mention the Lab to him. I do think he'll be better about exercising the dog(s) after the move when he's no longer living in such a cold climate. I mean, yeah people like that often don't learn and do often end up getting another dog, but you really have to wonder when it's only a few days after giving away the last one. At least if it's been several months you figure they forgot all the "bad" parts of owning a dog and only remembered it as being good, but in this instance And then they're already annoyed with the new one? As far as coconut oil, it's fine to feed puppies, but introduce it slowly as it can cause loose stools.
