Gave puppies there breakfast a few hours ago and they enjoyed it just as much as dinner last night!!! What a giant mess!

PUPPIES INCOMING!! I have been a little disappointed, the room is just a tiny bit too dark to get really good pictures with my camera. I have to use the flash, which makes their eyes look all crazy, or the picture comes out blurry from the long shutter speed (and wiggly pups). Anyhow, here come the pictures!!

Puppy pics coming in a bit. 3 weeks old today, lots of wormy poop from getting dewormed yesterday. Let the try ,ush for the first time and they went GAGA!!!!! Loco crazy! Only one couldn't figure out how to lick it up off of the plate, was still rally trying to suckle. Kept walking backwards trying to nurse off of his own legs :d. Made a HUGE mess too. Most of the puppies look like they've gone swimming in it... Which they did. Fresca is enjoying cleaning them all up. They all wanted to nurse after their feeding frenzy too, hungry little boogers. Got some fat bellied puppies now!!

Dog Health > Heartworm Treatment - What To Expect?
Sarah,- CW-SR,- CW-G1, CGC
Million Dollar- Mutt |
| Barked: Fri May 17, '13 4:38pm PST | | | | | The vet that does our treatment doesn't do the doxy/ivermectin first. I would never take my dogs to him though... He is very rural and does things "old school".
Sarah is a heartworm survivor, she was my foster dog and came to me a few days after treatment. I had a really hard time keeping her calm (she's a jack russell mix) and at one point she was coughing up a little bit of blood. She had been in her crate but was scared (I was mowing the lawn). She must have been pretty anxious in the crate, because as soon as I let her out, she started coughing up blood . Very scary!!
Edit: by "our treatments" I mean the rescue groups's treatment, not my own...

Flicka stay safe, I think severe weather season is just having a late start this year, feel like we will see a lot of it in June. We are fairly protected where I am (in a river valley) but we have had terrible tornadoes in the past here.
Took the puppies in to get dewormed today. They wouldn't let me pick up dewormer and do it myself. Had to weigh them all there, too. Pups will be three weeks tomorrow, vet said they are all looking good! Big girl is almost 3lbs and the smallest is just over 2lbs. Teeth are poking though and they are just starting to play with each other, in slow motion because they are so uncoordinated.
Watching the series finale of The Office tonight. Haven't watched most of the episodes in over a year so I'm. A bit out of the loop, but it's still pretty good!

Stayed home sick from work again today. Still miserable and I have a TON to do. Working on reports right now at a Starbucks. After Starbucks I'll move to Panera down the street!
Cannot clear up Mama dog's diarrhea... And I think she is wanting to wean the puppies- I practically have to drag her into the pen now, even when I am sitting in it. Puppies screaming and swarming... She needs to hang on for 2.5 more weeks until I'm done with work!!!

Raw Food Diet > heartworm preventative...yes or no?
Sarah,- CW-SR,- CW-G1, CGC
Million Dollar- Mutt |
| Barked: Sun May 12, '13 5:26pm PST | | | | | My dog, Sarah, came to me as a heartworm positive dog. Yes, heartworm is treatable, but it is very expensive and very hard on the dog. They inject the dog with an arsenic-based compound that kills the adult heartworms, twice in 24 hours. For the the first few days, your dog feels miserable from the injections. Then the fun begins. Your dog will be back to feeling fine, but they cannot be allowed to be active. This is because as the worms die, they break apart into pieces. The dog's heartrate and blood pressure has to be kept low or large pieces can be forced out of the heart and into the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. Sarah had to be crated practically 24/7 at frist because she wanted to be so active. It was miserable for her and me. | | | | |

| Barked: Sun May 12, '13 12:09pm PST | | | | | Happy Mother's Day everyone! Today is also my dad's birthday, called and talked to both of them.
Cooked up some hamburger and rice and Sarah ate a bit of that. Won't be feeding her for awhile now, just wanted to make sure that she doesn't feel too terrible! Took her for two extra walks today, trying to get her to poop! :p
Puppies are starting to get a bit more active. I think they are a bit confused- When Fresca & I go in the pen, they all swarm me and not her! They are starting to wobble around in the pen and try to mouth on things. Getting cuter every day. Their copper points are starting to spread and get darker, some of them have kind of wavy hair on their ears, wondering if they will end up longhaired like mama!
Toto- what do I do next? Toys? "real" food??

| Barked: Sun May 12, '13 8:25am PST | | | | | Yesterday evening I accidentally locked Sarah in the garage with a bag of dog food, for an hour. She helped herself to about 2-3lbs of kibble... I did take her in to the emergency vet because she was so bloated. They gave her some meds, an X-ray. Tok her home about midnight last night and she is still not feeling really great. I called back and asked them at what point should I expect her to be feeling better. She said to wait a few hours and if she's panting a lot or pacing, o r still not interested in food, then I should bring her back in. I spent $500 there last night and do not want to go back!!!!! There is another vet that I have brought the rescues in to that is open today and I may end up taking her back in there. Ugh... This dog is killing me and draining my pocketbook simultaneously!! The evet says they do not charge an exam fee if I bring herbackwith in 24hrs. It's just all the extras I'm worried about!! | | | | |
