Service & Therapy Dogs > Fostering Dogs Being ESAs?

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. Asking a landlord to accommodate a different dog every month or so is not a reasonable accommodation. It also doesn't give the dog and person enough to bond. I don't think a landlord would go for it.

Service & Therapy Dogs > ESA ages?

I'm not concerned about the age. I'd be concerned that all these puppies are popping up and suddenly being called ESAs. Does your complex management know how someone qualifies to have an ESA or are they just taking the person's word?

Service & Therapy Dogs > The Yellow Dog Project Helps Service Dogs

You'd think a mobility harness on a large dog with a large DO NOT DISTRACT sign would keep people and other dogs away but it doesn't. How is a yellow ribbon going to do it?

Just playing Devil's Advocate here after having countless small dogs on flexis run up to my working dog at an open air mall today.

Service & Therapy Dogs > Any ideas about a mat/blanket?

I use a mat made by another SD handler. There are groups on Facebook just for the purpose of buying/selling new and used SD gear.

1. This is an ad for your business which is against Dogster policy.
2. Can we say overpriced vests?
3. If you want to have a successful online business, use your spell and grammar check functions!

Service & Therapy Dogs > Other animals as Service animals

I know there are people who have successfully used non-canines as service animals. I once heard someone claim that their snake was for seizure alert. That if they were going to have a seizure, the snake would squeeze tightly on their neck. That in itself is frightening. A snake squeezing your neck right before a seizure is not good at all!

And is it really a reasonable accommodation to ask to bring a giant snake everywhere with you? Besides, service animals are required to be leashed, tethered, contained, etc. somehow. How would you leash a snake?

Service & Therapy Dogs > Do you use an "over the shoulder" leash?

I bought an OTS leash made by a fellow SD handler. It's leather and absolutely wonderful. She's not making leashes and collars at the moment (college student) so I'd recommend Bold Lead Designs. Our mobility harness is from there and it's the best one on the market. Expensive, but the best.

Max's off-duty collar just has an ID tag and a rabies tag. His working collar has an ID tag, dog license, the state required SD tag.

I NEVER check in with anyone (airlines are the exception) when I enter a public facility with my SD. It sets a bad precedent.

"No dogs allowed." Point at vest and say "Service Dogs are allowed by law"

"Well is he a seeing-eye dog?" or "You're not blind." "No, I am disabled and this is my trained service dog. A guide dog is just one type of service dog"

"Do you have proof?" or "Can I see his papers?" "That is illegal, you are not allowed to ask that." Then hand them a copy of law, I keep a few on hand at all times.

As for the signs at your college and people bringing pets to class, I would definitely have a word with disability services!!
