Food & Nutrition > Fruit and Vegetables for a trip to the beach?

Dogs are carnivores..they eat meat, not fruit & veggies. While it won't harm them, it is not an ideal diet. Why not pack some kibble if you think you need food. Water is more important. I take mine to the beach. I don't take food. They're having too much fun to eat. Take a towel & umbrella to create shade, so she doesn't overheat.
The fruit will probably just give her bad diarrhea.

Have to agree with Sabi. It has been just a short time & there are several factors going on.
Many people get gsds, then don't do the proper HARD work to train them, so when they hit this age they get dumped in shelters..labeled "aggressive," "stupid," "unmanageable."
She is entering teenage-butthead phase, and perhaps a fear stage.
Be patient. Do as Sabs suggests. Don't force her to you. Use "planned ignorig"..meaning you act like like she's not there. Toss/drop those high vaue treats when you're near her. Eventually she'll come to you.
She may have had a reaction to the flea spray. Perhaps you can discuss with your vet a better product.
Once she comes around, use clear, consistent, positive training methods & in a few years she'll settle into a fantastic dog. Don't give up on her. It is worth the effort.smile

I tried posting the minute it came out..unfortunately, I can't post on Disqus...still. I sent HQ my response to try & post as a test post for me..so far nothing!
I was sick when I read it. My response is PC, but the opening line was "I guess we have a differing opinion on ethical." I was soooo glad to see you posting Tiller. smile

You guys are the best. Darn our rugged terrain, eh? A sedative might be a good idea. I'll look into that.

Thank you for the resources! We will definitely look at the flights. Thanks Rexy! We were discussing the length of time to drive & the stress, so if there's a flight going out we we will check that out. He has a tentative flight booked for Wednesday..but cargo/commercial. frown

Hey guys. I know someone who needs to transport a lovely lab mix from Vancouver to Toronto to his new home. It was his father's dog, who unfortunately passed away. This poor guy can not keep the dog. So...
Transport would need to happen as soon as possible. I could do a leg to the Okanagan if we can get him any further. Never done this, so pardon any gaffes.
Sabi? Jewel?
ETA..or any info on pet transport here in Canada?

For the treats, I would do incompatible behaviours. A dog in a sit-stay can not run up to the other dog. I would have both dogs sit, then treat Winnie first. Turn your attention to Pearl, keep her in the sit-stay until Winnie is done..then Pearl gets hers..with a ton of praise.
You could tether her to you to prevent the dashing over. When you give Winnie her treat, simply walk out of leash-range & do the sit-stay.

Since it is not a breed there is no guarantee how the dog will turn out. Any mutt/mixed breed could have any number of traits from either breed. A better option would be to contact a local rescue, tell them what you are looking for in terms of temperament, exercise, trainabilty, size, grooming, etc. & they will match you with a fabulous dog for you & your daughter. They may even have a cavalier-poodle mix for you.
Please do not be fooled into thinking this is a breed of its own, with specific breed traits. It is a mutt, or mixed breed. Nothing wrong with that..one of my dogs is a mutt (gsd-coyote mix). Best dog ever cloud 9
Also do NOT buy from a back yard breeder or pet store, especially a pet store. You will likely end up with a puppy mill dog..and a host of genetic, behavioural, & health issues.

Direction changes are your best friend. LAT, LAM did nothing for Squam. But incorporating sudden quick direction changes into the walk really helped. It keeps his focus on me, tather than the dog. He has gone from reacting at 100 meters, to (just last week) passing within 5 feet. He even stayed calm while I briefly chatted with the owner of the yappy dog. smile
Determine threshold, & then use the direction changes when you're getting close.
Pmail me if you want more deets with what I did with Squ'mey.
