Somebody in the Choosing the Right Dog forum asked people to tell about their breeds, and I wanted to cross post here, because this is the first jack I've ever had, and I would really love to hear about other people's jacks. I don't know how much about Desi is all jack, and how much is just her individual peculiarity. So here's what I wrote about her: (Please tell me about YOUR jack)

Desi is smart and fearless and insanely cute. Full of confidence and very affectionate.
She is a very high energy dog. Even at 10 years old, she plays like a puppy. We are her third home, got her when she was 8, so I can't tell you anything about jack puppies. But at this age, she keeps up pretty well with our large breed puppy who is 7 months old. She is highly possessive. Every dog thing in the house is hers. She spends a lot of time guarding dog toys and treats, even though she's not interested in playing with them or eating them. Her "game" seems to be "I have it and you don't" and she gets a lot of enjoyment out of making that fact extremely clear to other dogs in the house. She is a consummate aggravator. We have 3 other dogs and 3 cats and 7 mice and she lives peaceably among them. (although for the first couple weeks we had the mice she seriously wanted to eat them. I think she might still if they ever got out, but she is no longer obsessed with them. To be fair, that's what terriers were bred for, to kill rodents.) She is very very funny, but if you are not into noisy, forget it. She barks at everything...and when she's on a barking jag (like when she's playing) she doesn't even bother to close her mouth. She just opens it and barks and barks until she is hoarse. Fortunately, I find this hilarious. I didn't think I'd like having a jack, but to be truthful, now that I've spent some time with the breed,I'd have 10 of them.
Although she can be left at home all day (remember, she's not totally alone because we have other pets), she needs loads of exercise. She needs her daily walks and playtime. Without that, she go nuts.
She is a big cuddler. Loves to sleep right in the bed with me under the covers and loves to be held.
Desi is very whiny. Not in a bad way, but she makes little whines and whimper noises even when she is being cuddled and I'm told that's a jack thing. She is afraid of nothing and has very large teeth.
I've also been told that because they are so fearless, Jack's often hurt themselves. (a vet told me he sees a lot of cases of injured jacks and it's because they jump right into whatever they are doing.) That said, in two years, she's never injured herself - but again, she is older.

Queen of the- house!

I'm Kimmy, a Jackapoo. Dad says I'm a four legged rocket. I like to run all over the house with my older brother Albert. I've been getting into a lot of trouble lately by shredding paper products, stealing presents, taking away anything my brother picks up and throwing a tantrum if he doesn't give it to me, attempting food theft and a variety of other ventures. There isn't much I'm afraid to try, regardless of the consequences.

Despite the fact that I antagonize my dad and brother, I love them both dearly. They drove from 45 minutes north of Lansing all the way down to Toledo just to pick me up from the shelter that rescued me.

I never used to bark, but my big bro started teaching me how to be a good guard dog from day one. I like to protect the house and everyone in it.

Dad hasn't had a job since just before he got me, so I get to spend a lot of time with him. I don't much like it when he goes away, but when he does is the best time for me to do all of those things I'd get busted for when he's home. I like to snuggle up in his lap when he's in the recliner and I tuck myself in under the covers with dad and Albert at night.

I'm Sparkle, and I have another Jack sister Phoenix. I Have a boston terrier sister too, but this is about Jacks, so I won't talk about her.
When I was little, I was a real terror. I would run and run and speed around the house until I literally fell over from exaustion. Mom and Dad and me would play fetch and catch to try to wear me out, but Mom and Dad were usually the ones who got tired! I got into everything, trashcans, laundry baskets, drawers, cabinet doors, you name it. Mom used to say it was like having a human toddler whatever that means. Potty training>?? Forget it. I held out on the humans until they finally bought me that doggy door. They used to get so mad when I would poop in the very very back of their closet so that they wouldnt find it. Despite all of the trouble that I got into, I won my parents hearts by giving lots of kisses and always having lots of tail waggies. I learned to calm down at just the right times, like when mom had surgery... I layed down quietly with her for hours and she gave me lots of scritches in return. I'm a very sweet loving girl, really!
A few weeks ago they brought home a new sister. Shes ok, but way to fuzzy for my taste. She likes to play like me, though so, I have taught her some of the games I used to play when I was a puppy. Mom says phoenix is way more mellow than I was at that age. Hmph, I think its because I didn't have 2 sisters to keep me busy and company!hug

Roxy the Pom has a brother and sister JRT's. Both very different.

Jax'N Trouble, the male is WILD! Jax'N is about 3 yrs. old and was a pound resuce. He's been with us for 2+ years. He is into everything and goes 900 mph at all times. He LOVES to be rubbed but does not want to be held. He has a ton of patience with Roxy when she chews on his ears.

Jill No, the female is...lazy. All Jill wants to do is sleep. Jill is also a pound rescue and they estimate her to be about 2, but if we had to guess...we think she is WAY older than that. She does not have the usual JRT energy. Jill doesn't have much patience for anything, she's so sweet and just wants to be held. But she does not tolerate any playing. She quickly puts a stop to Jax and Roxy play fighting.

So very different, each JRT. But in order to be a good JRT owner, you have to appreciate their craziness!

Spaz

I gotta run,- run, run !!!

Hi, I'm Spaz, and if my name doesn't express my personality then maybe I can empazise. Ever since I was a little pup I ran on batteries. I can play for hours on end and then just run out of gas. I love to play ball, chew up bobo's, play tug-a-war, RUN,watch the dogs outside, chase birdies in the backyard, bark at anyone by my house( I live next to a recreational park so alot of people come by my house) , watch doggies on tv, chase the kittie, try to dig a hole in pillows, tear out squeakers...

When I was young I slept in a crate until I was properly trained and now I sleep with mommy under the covers in her arms at night. I guess you would call me a freeze baby, I live in Ohio but any chance I get, I'm under the covers or in someones arms or both.

I share my home with the kittie (who is 12yrs old) and in morning I run downstairs and greet the kittie by tackling him to the ground and then I go about my day. During the day, whenever the kittie decides to go upstairs I like to play a game called who can make it up the stairs first. So I chase him up the stairs just to make sure he makes it up to his destination. The only thing I don't care for is if I'm being held and the kittie wants to be held I refuse to share my lovin's, so I object by a little groanish growl. I'm not being mean I just like to express that "If I can't have all your attention then I don't want your attention at all!"

Mommy thinks I'm a little crazy, I have problems with anything that you can push with a handle. I hate vaccums, mops, brooms, shovels, swiffers... you name it I hate it! I circle around the object and bark at it until it stops moving. I also hate when people hit, and when people tell me I have fleas and then point to one of my spots. I DON'T HAVE FLEAS!!!!

I'm a big sweet heart that loves to be held and kissed.I'm not too fond of being dressed up I'll let mommy dress me in crazy outfits so she can take a few pictures.
But what else can I say I have a very unique personality so I guess if you wanted to own one of my brothers or sisters then I suggest you have to have a open heart, a good sense of humor, a little patience, and a lot of love.

My mommy says I am a "Devil Dog". She says if Satan had a dog, it would be me!! Not that I am bad...I just like to aggravate. And I love to bark bark bark. My other mama laughs and laughs at me and says she loves me because I am so cute and funny. I love to be held and petted, but sometimes I'll lay still only so long and then I'll nip! hee hee hee. You never know when I may strike!

I have a funny little habit, too. If you tell me I am cute, I will stick my tongue out and look even cuter!

Snickers

Barking is my- life !

Hi,
Our Jack is 3 yrs old. Her name is Snickers. We have had her since she was a puppy.
They are very high energy dogs. Loves to be with someone all the time. Always wants to play ball.
Snickers barks at everything also. We still can't get her off that habit.
She likes to run after birds outside.
Very tempermental when she is laying in a comfortable spot and does not want to be moved.
Great house dog.
Loves to lick, lick and then lick some more. She cannot keep that tongue in her mouth for anything. I think it is her way of kissing.
Very intelligent dogs.
There are pictures of her on my page. Check it out on here.
I was never a dog person till we brought her home.
Now I wouldn't give her up.
She is our baby girl.

take care,
Kim puppy

I'm Chloe. My parents picked me out of the puppy line up because I was rompin' on my siblings (that and I think my coat had something to do with it). Right off the bat I tested their patience with everything. I think I was the biggest handful to date! I would stop at nothing to entertain myself.
As I grew up it only got worse. I bark at just about everthing that moves outside my house; and especially the doggie on the other side of the fence. Stubberness is my game because I always have to be the victor. (I'm too smart for them) But that's okay. After I win I give my parents all the love they can handle. I don't stop licking til' their faces are dripping with slobber.
When my parents leave for the day, I curl up on their pillows and wait impatiently for their arrival. When they get home, I don't let the do anything until I get my playtime. At the end of the day, I curl up on their feet under the blankies and let them now of anything that may go bump in the night.
