High prey drive?

My girl is half Treeing Walker Coonhound, and the rest is Beagle with some Greyhound mixed in. She has a VERY high prey drive. Whenever we're walking and she sees birds, squirrels or rabbits, she goes crazy and wants to charge right after them. She'll stand still then slowly stalk them and want to tear off after them. We had a family of birds teaching their baby to fly in our back yard. She chased after the baby and just about grabbed him before I was able to get her in the house. Not sure if she was just curious and wanted to play or if she'd kill him.

She is only 8 months old so I don't know if being a puppy has anything to do with it. Do TWCH's typically have a high prey drive? This is my first experience with this breed. I had a Beagle previously who liked to chase/track rabbits but didn't seem to have as much of a hunting instinct.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean to post this twice... Don't have any idea how that happened as I only clicked "post" once.
