I love the shaggy look of my pup. His coloring looks so pretty as the puppy coat grows out. I have kept his coat long to enjoy the black tips. However, spring is coming and he will need a trim. Any tips or suggestions? He tends to have the a more Maltese type coat, fluffy and fly away! I think his under coat might be a little more silky(As his paws were trimmed a little when his nails were done last week).Pictures would be great!!! Thanks, Jen and Snickers

A medium cut in the summer is good for these dogs. DO NOT shave the dog just a medium cut. Remember these dogs have hair not fur. Morkies can and do sunburn. My vet said NEVER shave a dog that has hair not fur. Go to Deejays and Andy's page and you can see how we keep them cut. They are groomed about every 6 weeks. It took us almost a year to get a groomer that we liked, one that would cut the dogs like we wanted. Whe have a wonderful lady that the dogs love and she cuts them just like we tell her. Some groomers will cut the dogs the way THEY want not what the owner asks for. You know what you want on your dog so don't be afraid to speak up. cheer

You two look great! Is the key here asking for a scissor cut, no clippers? I love how DeeJay is longer but looks cleaned up. Hope that sounds right?! Love the video, very cute! Can't imagine having two Morkies? This one little guy is all we can handle. He is perfect~fun and spunky and then calm lovey! Oh and I hear ya on the boys my big sister thinks I look pretty with pink ones in sometimes. Thank goodness my big brothers come home from school and save me!!!!!

Not really. The groomer will use both to do the dogs hair right. The use clippers on Andy and DeeJay's belly, rear and paws. The rest is done with different types on items. One of the things they use is a detangle razor. I got one of these at wal-mart to keep our dogs in shape. Morkies will tend to mat a bit because of the long hair and the razor keeps them in shape. It is safe and will not harm the dog, You just pull it through the hair where there is a problem. Our dogs also get a bath every two weeks unless they get real dirty. Then they get it when they need it. Ask your Vet who they think is a good groomer, we did this and we got a real good one. Also find a picture of a cut you like and take it with you to the groomer. That kind of gives them a guide as to what you want. Look around on dogster and find a dog that has a cut you like and print out the picture for your groomer. Our groomer has a computer that they can go to dogster and see the dog we are talking about. This is handy because the groomer can see many different angles of the dog and get your cut to match as close as possible. Puppy cuts work well for climates that are warm and not to hot. Of course the longer hair is best in the winter or in cold areas.
