 | | | | We adopted a male English Setter from a rescue organization three and a half months ago. He is generally very sweet, very people oriented, moderately active, completely housebroken, and walks well on a leash (except when he sees a squirrel!). We had a few growling incidents with him, where we were walking with him and another dog came over and sniffed him. Last week, our daughter visited us with her dog, whom our Setter disliked. Our daughter was on her bed, cuddling with the Setter, when her dog came up on the bed. Our Setter turned around and bit our daighter's face (20 stitches required). Our vet called it "misplaced aggression"-- our dog intended to go after our daughter's dog. Fortunately, our daughter will be fine, but we cannot keep our Setter. We have two other dogs, with whom the Setter has co-existed, but we cannot risk another incident. We are heartbroken, because Reggie (our Setter) has great qualities and can be very sweet. He is a people dog, smart, alert, good "protector of the house" (he'll let us know if he sees anything outside). We need, quickly, to find him a home, preferably one without other dogs and without children (although he has not been a problem with children, we are concerned that if a child tried to take a toy, bone, etc., there would be a problem). We do not want to put him down, although that is unfortunately a possibility if we cannot find a good place for him. Any suggestions or thoughts, PLEASE!! We live in the NYC Metropolitan area. | | | | |
