Okay... so Sunday morning I went outside because James (my fiance) was going to be here any minute. Rosco was going potty and I looked off the porch to see Bonnie and Kasey across the road. Our newly-fixed gate didn't close all the way and she was doing her hunting thing and Bonnie tagged along. I was pissed to say the least. I called her and Bonnie, neither of them paid me any attention so I started to walk over to grab their collars and haul them back into the yard. A car crested the hill and Kasey finally looked up and saw me walking towards her and started to trot up to me.... yes... she got hit.... I freaked out (she is okay btw, she survived) when I heard the THUMP and her screaming. The lady driving the car stopped and backed up (Kasey ran to other side of the road/to me) and parked her car. She was freaking out and asked if there was anything she can do, is she okay, etc. I dropped Bonnie back into the yard so she wouldn't get hit and told the lady that I know she has a broken leg (her lower, front, right leg was snapped and just hanging there... I'll never be able to get that image out of my mind...) but I think she's okay otherwise. The lady asked if I needed her to stay and I told her that if she needed to get somewhere then she could leave. She put her number on my phone and drove off. I called the house and me, my mom, and James (who arrived a few minutes after the accident) carefully put Kasey in the suburban and drove her to the Emergency Vet Clinic.
The finally verdict is that that her leg is very very badly broken. They splinted it and we brought her home till Monday when our vet was open. Thankfully our vets are amazing and the best we could ask for. They know that we are short on money these day and told us that they will take the money for her numerous surgeries on a pay-what-we-can basis. The lady came back to our home while we were at the clinic and kept telling my dad that she was so sorry, we kept telling her it's not her fault, our dogs should have been in the yard. She gave my dad $80, he kept refusing it but when he saw the lady was almost in tears, he finally took it. I called her after we got out of the clinic to tell her that Kasey will be okay, she was relieved.
She had her first set of surgeries yesterday and will be coming home tonight. The vets say she's doing very well. Please keep us in your prayers!
