Hi everyone. I've been on Dogster a long time, but new to this group. About 3 months ago, Micah had what I thought was a partial seizure... He was on the couch, got up and was kind of acting out of it or like he was nervous and while standing, was shaking like when he gets nervous and moving his right front leg. He acted like he couldn't walk on it. I picked him up and laid him down on the couch and rubbed his belly while he shook for a minute and then he got up like nothing ever happened. I immediately brought him to a vet down the road and then to another the next day. The first said he thought it wasn't a seizure and maybe Micah either had a charlie horse in his leg or it had pins and needles. I took him the next day to the normal vet we go to to make sure and she said it also didn't sound like one, but it could be a partial seizure. We got blood tests taken and everything was perfectly normal. Three or so months went by and yesterday morning my mother was at my house with him and he was again, laying on top of the couch. My mom looked over and he got down on the cushion and was holding his leg up again and was shaking, just like when he's nervous (he does that when he's scared or over excited or his tummy hurts as well). This lasted less than a minute or two, and he was back to himself again. Does this sound like a focal or petite seizure??? I'm taking him again to the vet I love, to talk to him and see what to do, but I'm nervous. He's almost 6, and has never had anything like this before. Please let me know what you think. Thanks SO much in advance! smile

I'm so sorry to hear about your little one. It can be scary, but you are not alone. My female sheltie had an episode that I believe was caused by a large rosemary plant that I had watered in the bath tub and the aroma went all over the house. I've also read that lavender and strong citronella scents may be linked to these episodes. After removing the plant she's not had another since. I thought since it was summer you may have some plants or "natural" type insect repellents usually marked safe for pets but may cause a seizure in a small and sensitive dog, in the house. My vet just told me that since the treatment for seizures are so heavy duty that I should keep a close watch on her and keep a diary of the seizures. But she's been seizure free now for 6 months. Here's something to think about, you said your little one had an episode at your mom's house? What do the two have in common? I've read here at dogster that hunting for a trigger can drive a dog owner crazy and many times it is never found. I would say that a diary of what she eats, the times, dates and notables of each event would be most helpful to your vet in deciding on a treatment plan, if you should need one. Research is always good, and turn to dogster for help and more information. Good luck.
