Well, to be honest, I didn't know getting into this...getting an Akita or a dog for that matter was not my choice and I really had no knowledge to speak of...of course being the person that I am, I jumped right in when I knew I was the "one" for him and learning has been hands on.

I forgot,he was supposed to be the family dog and your husband
was the one w/dog and akita experience. You didn't really pick Sabre he chose you. You've done a great jhob with him and for never having had a dog you've done an amazing job. He is at the most stubborn and defiant stage he will go through it usually happens between one and a half and three so now you can be a little more prepared for it. Mika will be 3 at the beginning of Dec.,
but I expect her to be a little more willful and defiant when the new puppy comes,I'm just hoping she snaps out of hers before he gets into his or I will just pull my hair out or check into the psych ward.
or both. My husband thought Mika was a great idea and she was but
his participationin her training was well since I was up I took her out. So, no real help there and he did tell me several times he would not spend the next 12 yrs. sleeping w/ a dog on the bed shortly before letting her sleep with us. The rest has been up to me and I expect the same help with Kai but I guess some help is better than none. I know you had hoped for more help from your husband as well, and have had to work pretty much on your own,but at least you know you can do it and do it well now. Take care and keep working I know Iwill .

I'm so sorry if you have felt ignored. I think your contributions to this group are very valuable. You keep us going! If you don't get a response from me its not because I'm angry with you. Honestly, I don't check dogster that often, I didn't at all until I found this group. And I belong to quite a few other groups, mailing lists, and discussion boards on other sites, some are very high volume. This means I have lots and lots to read, and I don't always get around to it all. Also, when I do post, especially about training advice, I really like to take time and do a good job. So if I feel I don't have the time to do a subject justice, I won't post, or I will come back and post later when I have more energy.

I do check this group sometimes but I don't check p-mail. If you really need to get a hold of me for any reason, or you have posted something to me and I haven't responded any group member is welcome to use my regular e-mail address: ashaw820@gmail.com

All the best,
-Alanna blue dog
