Ok well I was wondering if theres a way for your vet to check and see if your dog has been debarked. And if it has been debarked do you know if there is the possibility of long term health effect because of this?

There has got to be a way they can check. If they operate on the voice box it probably would show. You could probably ask your vet. That would be the best source for that Boston.

Thanks. Holly Dino's mom hasnt barked but she finally did and she sounds hoarse. Like a debarked dog sounds. Speedy Bostons dad was debarked and she sounded like him. It kind of sucks I think its mean but theres nothing you can do about it now I guess..shrug

frown I could never do that to a pup. I don't care how much mine bark if someone comes near the house. If it becomes a nuisance I have her trained with a can with coins in it. All I do is tell her I am going to get the can and she now shuts up real quick. I learned that from a friend that has two shepherds and does rescue. That was the best training. You don't have to go buy a clicker. Cheaper this way. I still would ask the vet just for curiosity sake at the next visit. Don't hurt. way to go

Ya I tell mine no and they stop barking so its not that difficult to train them to not bark crazy amounts. Im bringing her for a heart worm test thursday so I will ask them then and just see what they say. Most of their dogs are not debarked though so not sure why she would be. She is a very quiet little girl.

Such a horrible thing to do to a dog. The vet can check see if the vocal cords have been removed.

I did a search on the problems

Debarking surgery is often a temporary solution to dog barking problems or puppy barking problems due to scar formation. And a debarking procedure must be repeated--sometimes a number of times. The dog isn't totally silent after you debark your dog, but the noise he makes--sort of like a loud, wheezy cough--is really pitiful. And worst of all, dog debarking does nothing to relieve that destructive process and stress that a barking dog falls victim to with the ulcers and immune system compromise.

Ya when she gets spade they will be able to tell because when they intabate they will see/feel alot of scar tissue. But this week I have been pet sitting for my mom so we have 5 dogs in our little house bol! And when she was out in our yard she was barking like crazy at the neighbor dog. I am almost 100% sure she was debarked. She still barks like crazy but it takes the ear piercing noise out of their bark. So it sounds very raspy and ya kind of pathetic. But she can still bark thats good she just sounds strange. As long as shes healthy thats all that we care about and she has a clean bill of health except for her teeth. They are horrid so we may see about getting her a dental when she gets spade. Do everything all at once and start fresh with her.

Wow that is great. Yep to get things done at once is the best. She won't have to keep going back and forth as we know how pups like the vets. LoL!! I know mimi don't .BayLee doesn't care she just loves everyone. Nice to see Radar here too. It is so great to talk to soemone on here. We had a yard sale for two days and it was really great. Made a good bit of money so mom will have the vet money before it is do. Got to get the shots. Ugh! way to go

YA I know dont you just love vet bills? And no matter what you get done its never a low bill its always alot of money! We wanted to have a garage sale we really have to clean our garage but havent gotten around to it yet argh!!!! Maybe next year. big grin
None of mine like the vet. Holly doesnt seem to care, Dino acts scared and shaky, Rosie sounds mean because shes a boxer and if you dont know her and she growls I see how she comes off as scary. Daisy acts scared, Boston if Im not around he will bite, growl and lunge at anyone. He is 4.2 pounds and everyone at the clinic act terrified of him. When they go to check his teeth they barely open it then jump back and are like its ok its ok. Im like what! Go right in there open it up nice and wide for them so they can look properly. I dont get it. Back when he broke his leg and we had health problems with him he was in and out of there alot I am almost 100% sure that he bit someone thats why everyone is now scared of him. 4.2 pounds!!!!!! Its odd bol!
