Roxi had TPLO in mid-May for a torn cruciate ligament. She did not have any problems and had her final checkup last week and the surgeon said she is healed! But now she has started limping and holding up the other leg! The surgeon said she is pretty lame in that leg now and he believes she has a partial tear. I have read about TPLOs quite a bit and from what gathered, dogs with partial tears have a better outcome. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with their dog having two TPLOs and if getting the surgery this soon after the first one is a bad idea? I am just wondering how she will do long-term as right now she is only 2 years old and not getting around so well. blue dog

Reggie had 2 TTA (similar to TPLO -I know this because my other dog just had TPLO) surgeries 3 months apart . Anyway, he has healed quite nicely. That was 2 years ago.
Roxi is younger and will probably heal faster and more completely than Reg did. He was misdiagnosed for almost a year so he ended up with arthritis from the injuries.
Best of luck, whatever you decide!

Our dog Buddy is in surgery for his 2. TPLO as I`m writing this. The outcome on his first, which was in Jan. 08 was perfect. We did some rehab afterward, but frankly I believe it would have been just as good without. When I talked to the surgeon this morning she said that the recovery after the 2. TPLO is often harder, simply because none of the legs is perfectly healthy anymore. Plus he is now almost 2 years older (10). She also talked about the newer procedure (TTA), but said to always do the 2. leg the way the first one was done and not mix them up. We will see how it goes. I wish he had not to go through this, but what choice is there? Kathi
