Hi, we are bringing home our chinese crested/ standard poodle mix in less than a week and really want to be the best naked dog mom I can be. I have heard a lot about skin care but no where (in books and the internet) have I found what I am actually supposed to do. Everywhere I do find what little info there is out there it says totally different things. Do they need bathed weekly? sunscrene? lotion? acne meds? shirts in the summer? Do they have food allergies like a chinese shar pei? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! we just posted a pal request! okay, hope i can remember all your q's-- yes, they need a bath a week-- i usually take freddie and nina in the shower with me (individually) and have used baby/sensitive skin shampoo and conditioner, but i find a natural dog shampoo with shea butter in it great -- it helps to moisture their skin.....don't use anything with oil in it, as it will clog their skin, and they are prone to blackheads!! I have been told that cresteds are allergic to wool, lanolin, and corn, though freddie and nina have no problem with wool, or sheepskin. I have not given them corn --they mostly eat a raw food diet. clothes are an awesome idea for protection (& fun!!) for both cold and heat, though i think that because cresteds have a bit of a higher body temp than a lot of dogs, when it's hot out they can really suffer, so i slather on the doggie sunscreen (the company that makes doggles make a great one) i have also used kids sunscreen, but wasn't sure about what might happen if they licked it......i hope i have helped!

Hi, thanks for the info. We have had him a few weeks now and things are going great. We couldn't find any doggy sunscreen but the baby stuff hasn't seemed to cause him problems, and he isn't a licker so thats good. He is now 11lbs at 12 weeks so I think it may be hard to find him clothes as he grows, especially as I don't have any idea how big he is going to get. We are having a lot of fun with him and love him to death.
