Hello!

Which websites, magazines, books, etc. do you use the most to compare the ingredients and quality of different dog food brands and treats?

I just started to read "Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food" by Ann Martin. Oh boy... I am now starting to wonder if home cooking and raw food are really the only truly safe options... I really don't enjoy cooking (not even for myself), and I live in an apartment, so raw feeding isn't quite as easy as it might be for someone with a back yard or concrete floors, so I kind of have to stick with commercial foods... at least for now.

So for now I use the following sources to try and find the healthiest dog foods:
1) The Dog Food Project for general understanding about nutrition and to make sense of which ingredients to avoid (other than the already given by-products, corn, soy, wheat, etc.) : http://www.dogfoodproject.com/
2) Dog Food Analysis for reviews and complete list of ingredients of products that I am considering:
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/
3) The Whole Dog Journal's annual Dry and Canned Food Review (mainly to confirm the NOT recommended brands) http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/issues/12_2/features/Dry-Dog-Food-R eview-Whole-Dog-Journal_16098-1.html -

I haven't found a good source for treats yet, so I just carefully read the list of ingredients of the individual product at the store or on-line. (Does anyone know if there is a website that reviews treats??) I like the Wellness Training Treats and C&P Organic cookies, and almost everything by Merrick.

we read the whole dog journal and our vets wife is a certified animal nutritionist, so Mom is always picking his and her brains! In fact our vet is the one who started us on better foods. Mom went to him during all those awful recalls a few years back and asked him what he fed his dogs and he told her Innova. So thats what got us started. Of course being the worlds pickiest 120 lb dog, we are always looking for something I will love! Lately irts been Solid Gold, but now I have decided its not as good as it used to be, so Mom found one thats salmon and sweet tater and I eat it like a treat!

I just read Sedona's Dog Food thread that Kiki posted http://www.dogster.com/forums/Food_and_Nutrition/thread/518898 - WOW!!! Yes, this is good stuff! (I handed a print-out of it to my co-worker who is a first-time dog owner and is feeding his beloved rescued pitbull pup Pedigree... This will help him a LOT to make better choices going forward.)
WAY TO GO SEDONA!!! PAWS UP!!!
