This is a thread just for help with tricks or even basic commands. I'll be sure to answer any questions about any of these instructions! big grin

Sit- hold a treat in your hand and put it in front of your dog's nose. Let him/her try all they want to get it. They don't get it till their butt touches the ground and once that happens you say, "Sit!" After about 5 or 6 times of doing that say the command.
~Another way- sorry if this doesn't make much sense, but it's MAGIC! Grip the treat in your fingers but keep our hand as flat as possible with the palm facing up. Bring your fingers up and towards you without moving your wrist that much or your arm. If that doesn't make sense, ask questions!

Lay Down- Hold a treat close to the ground and let your dog try to get it all they want again. They don't get it till they're in a laying position.
~Another Way- (very dependent on the size of your dog) hold your leg so that the knee is bent and have your dog try to go through. Keep it pretty low and be sure that in order to go through your dog lays down. Repetition exactly like sit.

Shake- the way I taught Annie, (must know Lay Down) is that you tell the dog to sit and then say to lay down and catch the paw going down. Then say "Paw". Annie learned in 5 minutes!

Stay- It's a simple Sit and say Stay. Back up as much as you feel comfortable (small at first, then go longer and farther). Be sure you give much praise and at first keep repeating the command as you're backing up. After they know the command, say it once thoroughly and after a few seconds say it again. Much repetition and practice is needed till it's perfect, but it'll be well worth it! big grin

Heel- leash your dog. Say sit and stay. Move a little bit with a treat in your hand and be sure that the dog is paying attention. (before you move, say heel) If your dog does it in the way you wanted, treat and say "Good Heel!" or some other praise with a nice tone of voice. If they don't do it properly, say "No" right after the first slip up. Don't ever even feel aggrivated as much as possible as a word of advice because dogs can sense very different things.
~For instance, if you're sad, your body gives off an odor that they can smell and they'll know. They have very developed senses! shocklaugh out loud

Just keep this in mind and you'll have a well trained dog in no time!

Anything else that you pups'd need help with, Just Ask!!! I know over 80 tricks and commands so most likely, I'll know what you're looking for! laugh out loud I'd be happy to help! big grin

laugh out loud Glad to help! It was mostly Sophie's idea!

Come- very many different ways and perspectives on this... There's using a word or phrase that you could only use in practices with treats or the desperate emergencies.

If you get a PUPPY it's much different. And you have 'dog experience' like I didn't have. Annie was a nine month old dog just out of her 3rd home and I hadn't the slightest clue of dogs! This is the method I've been using. I say, "Here, Annie!" and when she comes either one of my 'Famous Doggy Massages' or treats! Works like magic!

Today's lesson book:

Roll Over-
First, do a Lay Down
Bring your hand (with a treat) by one of the dog's ears and roll it behind the head to the oposite side
Say Roll Over as you do it and with practice your dog will learn!

(P.S.- Be sure that it's without mistakes. Just be sure that they roll right over and get a treat!
