Started my 4 m.o. gsd mix pup on semi frozen chicken legs and thighs 1 1/2 wks ago as a result of research for her itchy skin condition and teething. Scabs are gone, also her aggressive behavior has subsided and she's become quite the lover. Now working on a frozen pork roast. Basically I am clearing out my chest freezer of old meat at this point.

Older dog not so interested but did steal away with a chicken thigh that I saw her suckling two days later. How long is it ok that a dog work on a piece of meat?

More questions. Will my dog possibly get worms from eating raw pork? I just got rid of them two months ago and don't want to go through spaghetti poo again! Also, will her kisses possibly transfer worms or salmonella? She's so happy after devouring a chickensicle and wants to love everyone around.

Read somewhere that I can give whole fish, scales and all. Is this true? I live near good fishing so this wouldn't be a problem. Worried about her cutting her tongue and mouth, etc on the gills or scales.

How about raw fish for cats? Do I need to cut it up or clean it or do I just toss it in their normal feeding area?

Thanks!
Chloe

First off, Congrats on starting on raw! I've found it's help with so many things for me! Including Allergies!

Some dogs enjoy 'ripe' meat and will store or bury it for a few days before eating it, It really depends on the dog. I just wouldn't give them it already ripe, cuse then i'd feel bad if they got the poops.

I think it can be a possiblity but just that, If you are feeding human grade meats it should be lowered (i've never gotten worms =])

Yes yes yes!! It's awesome for them, and can contribute to the whole prey model!! If you fish your fish, I would recommend freezing it for a week or two at -20 celcius
If your scared of the fins tearing anything(like a catfish) feel free to cut them off. I've never had a problem with my fish and I only have a 6 pound pup!

Thanks!
