Well, after all these years of itching and scratching uncontrollably, we finally found the reason for all the itch! It's a food allergy! The Vet suggested Hills perscription z/d dog food. I tried it with Rose gradually weening her off of her expensive salmon dog food ... and she soon stopped itching and scratching! The meds the Vet gave her cleared up the staff infection that she caused from all the scratching.
However, now at the ripe old age of nearly 13 years, she's experiencing more problems with her collasped trachea. Her breathing is shallow or wheezy ... she constantly coughs harshly ... and she's eliminating more frequently. Maybe it's old age ... but I was amazed that we finally got rid of her itchiness. I just feel hopeless watching her try to breathe normal. Anyone have suggestions to deal with her collasped trachea other than cough suppressants and predisone/Benadryl?
