My puppy is 5 1/2 months old. Her hair seems thin. Will it get thicker as she gets older? I know she won't have an undercoat, but it seems thin.

i think the more you cut it, the thicker it grows.

Maltese dogs have silky hair, like Yorkies. It never gets very thick, but it's true that keeping it clipped shorter can make it seem fuller. We've tried Ava with both long and short cuts. The shorter cuts are certainly more convenient for grooming (no mats) and I think she likes it shorter when it is warm out.

Thank you so much for your reply. This group is kind of quiet. I have another problem with Bella. I've asked before about combing her hair. Bella HATES it! I was told to maybe try a soft brush and I did that and she still runs away. If she even see's you holding a comb or the brush, she sits somewhere else! Little stinker will even go sit with my husband to avoid me. My daughter and I have tried it together and being really carefull, but she still tries to bite the comb and us. She is fine getting a bath and blow drying, just the combing she hates. I wondering if we need to get a grooming table to keep her still. She is scheduled to go to the groomer every 4 weeks now because we have so much trouble with her!

Bella mom a groomer. Put her on top of a table every day with a rubber mat. I all this table time. Get her use to the table for a few minutes a day. My question is are you using a harsh brush on her and hurting her? Does she have mats and tangles you may be pulling? A grooming table is a great idea but don't ever leave her for one minute alone on the table with or without a noose on her neck as she can fall or choke to death. DO a small area of combing after spraying a conditioner on her. Never comb dry hair. I dont use any brush on my two Maltese only combs. I use a fine greyhound comb. Do a small area at a time. Then reward and praise her praise her praise her. Also ou should get intot he habit of brushing her teeth and clipping toes nails too. ANy question fell free to paw me..hugs and good luck
