Hank was soooooo energetic as a puppy. He wanted to play from the time he woke up, until the time he went to bed. He took maybe 2 or 3 small naps during the day, but that was it. It was pretty tiring, to be honest. Right at two years old, we noticed a big drop in his energy level, and again right at his third birthday, an even bigger one. Now, at three and a half, he has maybe 2 or 3 thirty minute sessions of serious playtime, a few little bouts of energy during the day, and the rest of his time is nap time.

Fred acts like he is jacked up on mountain dew most of the time!!

He is turining 2 years old in a week and has more energy than two 1 year old labs I was fostering. He takes several short naps during the day which lead to his constant energy level. The treadmill though has helped him calm down a little though. He hits the treadmill in the morning and walks outside in the evening.

Guinness shows some energy at times, but would prefer to nap. She likes to nap in the sun, and knows when to move throughout the house as the sun moves west. Her other fav spot is the middle of our bed, which today she napped in after strolling through mud. Thank goodness for washing machines.

Buster is TURBO CHARGED at 4 months old. We feed him 4 cups of high quality food a day. and he is still skinny.I think it is because he burns it off so fast. You have to wait a few min for him to calm down when I get home from work. As soon as he hears the door open. I hear him tearing around the corner. I brace my self and prepare for the slobber attack and play bites that leave marks. You must walk your bloodhound to drain that energy and crate him when your not home. Or you will not have a home to return too. But its all worth it . They have so much love to give that it outwieghs the trouble they get into.

Guinness, Elvis has energy twice a day.....breakfast and lunch. OK, and if you give him a baby he'll stay awake long enough to play with it, but then its straight to bed. He snores before his eyes even close. He is the stereotypical bloodhound.

Fred, all jacked up on Mountain Dew....do you go after your sister like a spider monkey? Love that movie!

I hope my next hound will be the stereotypical bloodhound!! I can’t wait till he gets a little older and will possibly slow down. I will say he is full of energy after his meals – its like I am feeding him jet fuel dancing!!!
I don’t think it helps that his sister Haylie is only 4 mo older than him and she hasn’t calmed down either.
Thankfully they LOVE the treadmill.

I am glad you picked that up Hank, I love that movie too happy dance Yes Fred does go after his sister like a spider monkey!!
